Job Summary:

The University of Colorado School of Medicine (CUSOM), Department of Pediatrics, Section of Infectious Diseases and Epidemiology seeks a full-time (1.0 FTE/1.0 cFTE) Advanced Practice faculty member (Physician’s Assistant or Nurse Practitioner) at Instructor or Senior Instructor to expand the Department’s cadre of providers with expertise in clinical infectious diseases providing care at the Children’s Hospital Colorado at the Anschutz Medical Campus. The role will provide infectious diseases consultation and follow up care to inpatients for a wide variety of conditions and participate in the teaching and academic mission of the ID section. This full time position will provide care Monday through Friday, day shifts with shared coverage during annual national and regional meetings and holidays assigned on a rotational basis. The role will have a strong clinical focus, with opportunities to participate in quality improvement and clinical research. 

Key Responsibilities:

  • Serves as Infectious Diseases consultant providing care for hospitalized patients with appropriate documentation
  • Works independently within the multidisciplinary team to provide quality inpatient consultative care and disease management for a variety of pediatric infectious disease conditions of varying acuity and complexity from admission through discharge throughout the inpatient settings including general hospital medicine services, intensive care, and surgical services
  • Participates in multi-disciplinary care including team meetings and patient care conferences
  • Communicate seamlessly to primary attending teams requesting ID consultation and other subspecialists involved in the patient care
  • Educates fellows, residents, medical students, and advance practice provider students in the field of pediatric infectious diseases
  • Attends at weekly clinical case conference and Section meetings

Progresses in development of excellence in clinical and teaching endeavors with opportunities to participate in quality improvement and clinical research aligned with your interests and section needs  

Work Location:

Onsite – this role is expected to work onsite and is located in Aurora, CO.

Qualifications:

Minimum Qualifications:  

Applicants must meet minimum qualifications at the time of hire.  

This is an open rank position and could be categorized as Instructor or Senior Instructor based on experience and qualifications as indicated below: 

Instructor:

  • Graduate from an APAP approved Physician Assistant Training Program or APN licensure and a master’s degree from an accredited Nurse Practitioner program.
  • Certification from the National Commission on Certification of Physician Assistants or Pediatric Nursing Certification Board certificate or other comparable certification required.
  • Colorado license will be required prior to start date. 
  • Ability to obtain Prescriptive Authority in the State of Colorado. 

Senior Instructor:

  • Graduate from an APAP approved Physician Assistant Training Program or APN licensure and a master’s degree from an accredited Nurse Practitioner program.
  • Certification from the National Commission on Certification of Physician Assistants or Pediatric Nursing Certification Board certificate or other comparable certification required.
  • Colorado license will be required prior to start date. 
  • Ability to obtain Prescriptive Authority in the State of Colorado. 
  • 5 years relevant experience as an Advanced Practice Provider.

Condition of Employment:

  • Must successfully pass a drug test through Children’s Hospital Colorado
  • Must be willing and able to pass a national criminal background check

Preferred Qualifications:

  • 2 or more years in an advanced practice provider role
  • Experience providing Infectious Disease patient care
  • Experience providing care to pediatric patients
  • Experience providing care in an inpatient setting
  • Acute Care Nurse Practitioner certification, if applicable.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

  • Knowledge of a variety of common pediatric and adolescent inpatient conditions
  • Strong diagnostic skills and clinical judgment
  • Superior customer service, communication, organizational and prioritization, problem solving, and collaboration skills are necessary
  • Expertise and training in history and physical examinations and determination of treatment plans necessary
  • Able to work well with all provider styles and types
  • Ability to work collaboratively with multiple care teams
  • Ability to build rapport with referring providers
  • Excellent communication skills, both orally and written
  • High level of professionalism
  • Ability to establish and maintain good rapport with patients and families
  • Knowledge or ability to work the Microsoft Office Suite and electronic medical records
  • Able to work well both independently and as part of a team
  • Ability to be well-organized and efficient in their work and be able to prioritize patient and system needs appropriately

Anticipated Pay Range:

The starting salary range (or hiring range ) for this position has been established as HIRING RANGE:

Instructor: $111,000 to $121,000. 

Sr. Instructor: $121,000 to $131,000

The above salary range (or hiring range ) represents the University’s good faith and reasonable estimate of the range of possible compensation at the time of posting. This position is not eligible for overtime compensation unless it is non-exempt.
