The Department of Family Medicine has five (5) focus areas, each with specific goals:

  • Research – Creating and disseminating new knowledge;
  • Communities - Connecting with our communities to achieve health equity; and

The Statistical/Data Analyst provides research support to principal and co-investigators (PIs and Co-Is), research projects, and departmental analytical projectsby ensuring data quality, preparing analytic plans, conducting analyses, disseminating results, providing project management and coordinating other research tasks.

Position Duties

  • Writes statistical programs in SAS (or other statistical software) to analyze data collected from various research projects.
  • Designs reports, runs advanced queries and develops data transformations in existing database systems to support data interpretation, reporting and systems conversions, including management of data integrity and accuracy.
  • Conducts complex statistical analyses, under the guidance of a senior biostatistician, including advanced methods (e.g., multilevel and longitudinal mixed effects models, multiple linear and logistic regression, and survival analysis).
  • Reports results, using a variety of statistical databases, spreadsheets, slide presentations and graphics software, consulting with the senior biostatistician as needed.
  • Consults with PIs and Co-Is on the design and implementation of data collection for research projects.
  • Under the direction of a senior biostatistician, assists with power and sample size calculations and developing the analytic plans, including defining outcome variables and covariates to be used, and determining the most appropriate statistical methods to use.
  • Manages data files that are derived from data collection. Maintains and monitors data quality to identify and repair problems in data systems.
  • Produces tables and figures for manuscripts, presentations and grant proposals.
  • Assists with the writing of the methods and results sections of papers, proposals and presentations. May attend and/or present methodological study findings at professional/scientific meetings.
  • Actively participates in educational forums, e.g., statistical seminars, SAS classes, mixed methods group meetings.
  • Under the direction of PIs, manages activities, timelines, reports and other study needs. Coordinates and collaborates with PIs, primary care providers, staff, and other partners to ensure projects are meeting established goals and timelines. Assists with preparing project modifications, amendments and progress reports.

Supervision Exercised:

May provide supervision, education, and guidance to professional research assistants, postdoctoral fellows, graduate students, residents, and interns.

Salary and Benefits :

The salary range (or hiring range) for this position has been established at:

Instructor : $85,000 - $100,000

Senior Instructor: $90,000 - $105,000

The salary of the finalist(s) selected for this role will be set based on a variety of factors, including but not limited to, internal equity, experience, education, specialty and training.

The above salary range (or hiring range) represents the University’s good faith and reasonable estimate of the range of possible compensation at the time of posting.

Qualifications

 

Minimum Qualifications:

Instructor

  • Master’s degree in statistics, biostatistics, or related field.
  • Minimum two years’ SAS programming experience.
  • Two years’ experience in research/evaluation, including experience with various research methods, data collection, data management and analysis.

Senior Instructor

  • Master’s degree in statistics, biostatistics, or related field.
  • Minimum two years’ SAS programming experience.
  • Three years’ experience in research/evaluation, including experience with various research methods, data collection, data management and analysis.

Preferred Qualifications (all ranks)

  • PhD or currently pursuing a PhD in statistics, biostatistics, or related field.
  • Two+ years of research experience in healthcare and especially primary care.
  • Two+ years of experience analyzing health care claims data.
  • Two+ years of experience analyzing electronic medical record data.
  • Five years’ research/evaluation experience.

Competencies/Knowledge, Skills & Abilities (all ranks):

  • Knowledge of quantitative analytic methods.
  • Ability to analyze large complex datasets.
  • Experience applying inferential statistics, research design principles, data quality assurance approaches and survey research designs.
  • Excellent computer skills, particularly with Microsoft Office software (Word, Excel, Access, Power Point, and Outlook), and SAS.
  • Versatility and the ability to operate effectively and efficiently according to the needs and demands of concurrent projects and deadlines.
  • Demonstrated interpersonal communication skills, and able to maintain diplomacy with all collaborating partners.
  • Strong problem-solving, analytical and decision-making skills; ability to independently analyze and resolve complex problems as well as self-directed work capabilities.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Strong work ethic including responsiveness to colleagues, attention to detail, and productivity
  • Ability to cultivate and advocate for an environment of diversity, equity and inclusion based on the position's responsibilities.
  • Ability to work with accuracy and attention to detail.
  • Ability to work independently and in virtual environment.
