Position Summary
The Department of Community and Global Health at the Indiana University (IU) Richard M. Fairbanks School of Public Health (FSPH) invites applications for a full time, open rank, non-tenure track, faculty position focused on excellence in undergraduate teaching. The position’s primary responsibilities will include teaching 100 and 200-level courses including general education courses within the department and school. Other responsibilities include mentoring students and working with others to assure student retention and success.
Candidates with robust teaching experience who possess the energy and enthusiasm to inspire our next generation of future public health leaders are essential. Courses assigned to this position may touch on all elements of public health, with an emphasis on topics related to culture and community, emergency preparedness, the environment, as well as communication and data dissemination. The ideal candidate will have demonstrated excellence in undergraduate teaching in both in-person and asynchronous online formats. The ideal candidate will also have experience supporting student success and retention.
In addition to teaching responsibilities, the position may have responsibilities related to maintaining quality across the school’s introductory and general education course portfolio. This will include course coordination across multiple sections and instructors and assessment dossier compilation for campus course evaluations and reviews. The position will also focus on quality metrics relevant to course success and student retention, including DFW rates. This position will occasionally represent the department and school on various committees relevant to undergraduate education. It is expected that the faculty member will work closely with others in the department and school, including other faculty and staff responsible for student advising, recruitment, marketing, and other student services.

Indianapolis is the state capital of Indiana and is the 16th largest city in the nation, home to outstanding cultural institutions and several professional sports teams situated in a diverse regional economy. The Indianapolis campus, known as IU Indianapolis, is the health and life science campus of Indiana University and the focal point of health profession education in the State of Indiana. The Department and School maintain close relationships with many health systems, state and local health departments, the state Medicaid agency, the Indiana Hospital Association, physician groups, and other stakeholders.

Applicants must be eligible for an academic appointment as lecturer, senior lecturer, teaching professor, or clinical track (teaching-focused) faculty member.
A successful candidate will possess formal education (MPH, MSEd, DrPH, PhD, or other relevant graduate degree) and have academic teaching experience (face-to-face and/or online) as well as experience in course development. While not required, the ideal candidate will be familiar with evidence-based teaching strategies, undergraduate retention best-practices, and first- and second-year student needs. Ideal candidates will also have experience developing course content for online courses in the Canvas learning management system.
