The Department of Psychiatry has an opening for a part-time (0.49FTE) Inpatient Attending Psychiatrist position.  

Job Summary:

Manages psychiatric and substance abuse treatment needs of adult populations primarily in a residential setting at The Center for Dependency, Addiction and Rehabilitation (CeDAR) clinic. Participates in clinical research and dissemination of findings, including presentation of scholarly writing. This part time position also includes participation in performance improvement activities, quality improvement, patient safety activities; assist in maintaining compliance with JCAHO accreditation and other internal and external regulatory statues including the code of conduct. This position requires familiarity with the use of chemical restraints, emergency medications, seclusion/restraint procedures, pharmacology for acute agitation, risk assessment, and treatment of substance intoxication and withdrawal.

Key Responsibilities:

The duties and responsibilities of the position include, but are not limited to:

  • Uses prescriptive authority, procedures, and treatments in accordance with regulations and institutional guidelines.
  • Orders and interprets laboratory and other investigative studies for initial assessment, follow-up care and discharge summaries. Provide consultation on patient care issues to staff.
  • Maintains clinical competencies in specialty area. Delegates and coordinates appropriate care recommendations to other providers.
  • Performs triage functions and monitoring patients, crisis management, intervention, and consultation for treatment planning.
  • Assist in referral and of scheduling patients for appropriate clinical community referral.
  • Participates in clinical research and dissemination of findings including presenting and scholarly writing.
  • Participates in call coverage for CeDAR residential program including evenings weekends and holidays.
  • Determining the appropriate treatment of patients, monitoring them as needed, and determining disposition.
  • Maintains eligibility for SOM faculty appointments.
  • Help with interdisciplinary trainee education in both clinical and didactic settings.
  • Perform initial diagnostic interviews, develop, and follow through with a treatment plan, and maintain appropriate documentation through the electronic medical record-Epic.
  • Identify when patients may move on from our treatment service as they complete care, transition back to primary care, or need specialty or long- term services located in the community.
  • Actively contributes to academic advancement of his/her/their discipline.

Qualifications:

Minimum Qualifications:
Applicants must meet minimum qualifications at the time of hire.  

This is an open rank position and could be categorized as Clinical Instructor, Clinical Senior Instructor, Assistant Clinical Professor, Associate Clinical Professor or Clinical Professor based on experience and qualifications as indicated below. Applicants must meet minimum qualifications at the time of hire. The ranks are based on how many years a candidate has been licensed and if they want to pursue the promotions track.  

Clinical Instructor:

  • 1-3 years of clinical experience at rank or equivalent experience.
  • Minimum degree qualifications: MD/DO, CO Physician License or Eligible for CO Physician License. Board Certified, Eligible, or Eligible by the time of hire in Psychiatry. 

Senior Clinical Instructor:

  • 1-3 years of clinical experience at rank or equivalent experience.
  • Minimum degree qualifications: MD/DO, CO Physician License or Eligible for CO Physician License. Board Certified, Eligible, or Eligible by the time of hire in Psychiatry. 

Assistant Clinical Professor:

  • 1-3 years of clinical experience at rank or equivalent experience.
  • Minimum degree qualifications: MD/DO, CO Physician License or Eligible for CO Physician License. Board Certified, Eligible, or Eligible by the time of hire in Psychiatry. 

Associate Clinical Professor:

  • 4-7 years of clinical experience at rank or equivalent experience.
  • Minimum degree qualifications: MD/DO, CO Physician License or Eligible for CO Physician License. Board Certified, Eligible, or Eligible by the time of hire in Psychiatry. 

Clinical Professor:

  • 7+ years of clinical experience at rank or equivalent experience.
  • Minimum degree qualifications: MD/DO, CO Physician License or Eligible for CO Physician License. Board Certified, Eligible, or Eligible by the time of hire in Psychiatry. 

Preferred Qualifications: (Applicable to all ranks)

  • Ability to interpret age specific developmental, physiologic, and unique care needs by assessment and by observation of care delivery.
  • Experience in making psychiatric diagnoses and managing psychiatric disorders.
  • Experience working effectively on a psychiatric behavioral health team.
  • Experience in telepsychiatry.
  • Experience in addiction psychiatry or medicine.
  • Completion of an addiction psychiatry or addiction medicine fellowship
  • Current and active certification in basic like support (BLS)

Anticipated Pay Range:

The starting salary range (or hiring range ) for this position has been established as HIRING RANGE:

The salary is based on the rank the candidate will be hired at as well as how long they have been fully licensed. 

Board Certification (or eligible) in Psychiatry MD/DO

The salary range (or hiring range per 1.0FTE) for this position has been established at

  • Clinical Instructor: $220,000 to $250,000.
  • Senior Clinical Instructor: $220,000 to $250,000.
  • Assistant Clinical Professor: $220,000 to $250,000.
  • Associate Clinical Professor: $250,000 to $275,000.
  • Clinical Professor: $280,000 to $310,000. 

The salary of the finalist(s) selected for this role will be set based on a variety of factors, including but not limited to, internal equity, experience, education, specialty and training.  

The above salary range (or hiring range ) represents the University’s good faith and reasonable estimate of the range of possible compensation at the time of posting.
