Job Summary:

The Division of Geriatric Medicine in the School of Medicine at the University of Colorado Anschutz Medical Campus invites applications for available full-time faculty positions at the rank of Assistant or Associate Professor. Successful candidates will join a collegial geriatrics division that includes physicians, advanced practice providers, and PhDs. This is a full-time position with varying/flexible work hours, including some evening and/or weekend coverage. The work site(s) may include (but may not be limited to) the University of Colorado Hospital (UCH) Seniors Clinics, University of Colorado (UCD) Division of Geriatric Medicine’s administrative offices,  University of Colorado (CU) School of Medicine, various community nursing homes, UCH inpatient hospital sites, and the Rocky Mountain Regional VA Medical Center.

  Key Responsibilities:

This role would include a mix of providing geriatric clinical care, as well as being a clinician educator. 

Clinic roles would include:

  • Provide primary care to patients in our geriatric primary care clinic(s), a patient -centered medical home with interdisciplinary care provided with social work, behavioral health, geriatric pharmacists, geriatric psychiatry, and nursing staff.
  • Attending on our nursing home resident teaching practice, which may include providing direction and supervision of clinic/hospital staff, students, residents and fellows.
  • Option of up to 4 weeks/year on the inpatient Acute Care for the Elderly (ACE) service and rotating one half-day/month attending in the Geriatrics Fellows clinic, depending on interest and overall availability.
  • Sharing in clinic call. Home call up to 4 weeks maximum per year of night and weekend coverage.

Educational responsibilities may include:

  • Clinical preceptorship in geriatric primary care clinic(s) of learners at a variety of levels including medical students, internal medicine and medicine/pediatrics residents, and geriatric medicine fellows.
  • Clinical preceptorship of learners in nursing home, subacute rehabilitation, and acute care of the elder services, as applicable to clinical work responsibilities.
  • Leadership of an established geriatric medicine elective for 3rd and 4th year medical students, which is primarily based in geriatric primary care clinic(s), enrolling up to 35 students annually. 
  • Curriculum development for medical students, residents, and fellows, as well as professional CME programs sponsored by the division.
  • Opportunity for involvement in and potential leadership of student and resident AGS chapter.
  • Potential to serve as Associate Program Director of the Geriatric Medicine Fellowship, with responsibilities including active participation in recruitment, curriculum development, rotation directorship, scheduling, clinical supervision of fellows, development of evaluation tools, participation in clinical competency and program evaluation committees, compliance with CU GME and ACGME policies and procedures. 
  • Clinical and scholarly mentorship of medical student, resident and fellow learners.
  • Curriculum development and didactic teaching within the advanced practice provider fellowship in geriatric medicine.
  • Potential to serve as a clinical preceptor to advanced practice provider fellows and students.
  • The clinician-educator may collaborate with other faculty on research projects (manuscript preparation, grant-writing process, hypothesis generation, etc.) and is expected to contribute to the academic mission of the division but is not expected to be a clinician-investigator in a research capacity.

Qualifications:

Minimum Qualifications:
Applicants must meet minimum qualifications at the time of hire.
 

Assistant Professor:

  • Current medical license in the State of Colorado
  • Board Certified (or eligible) in Geriatric Medicine  

Associate Professor:

  • Current medical license in the State of Colorado
  • Board Certified (or eligible) in Geriatric Medicine 

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience in adult medical education, including curriculum development, course directorship, clinical preceptorship, learner evaluation, and learner remediation.
  • Board Certified in Internal Medicine or Family Medicine
  • Have completed a fellowship in Geriatric Medicine
  • ACLS Certified 

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

  • Excellent presentation and communication skills
  • Strong clinical and teaching skills and an evidence-based approach to clinical care

    Anticipated Pay Range:

    The starting salary range (or hiring range ) for this position has been established as HIRING RANGE:

    Assistant Professor: $200,000

    Associate Professor: $225,000

    The above starting salary represents the University’s good faith and reasonable estimate of the starting salary at the time of posting. This position is not eligible for overtime compensation.
