Job Summary
The Civil Engineering Department (CE) in the College of Engineering at the University of Texas at Arlington invites applications for an open-rank (assistant/associate/full) tenure-track/tenured faculty position in the areas of sustainable, adaptive, and resilient infrastructure systems. We are seeking candidates with interdisciplinary or multidisciplinary research profiles and strong potential for collaborations within and outside of the civil engineering department. Research areas of interest include but are not limited to data science, artificial intelligence, automation, climate change, advanced sensing, advanced computations, and system approaches.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities
This position will contribute to the Civil Engineering program at UTA in three dimensions: research, teaching, and service. Faculty responsibilities include: 1) developing an original and national leading research program across multi-civil engineering fields and mentoring undergraduate/graduate students in support of the University RISE 100 initiative with external federal, state, local, and/or industrial funding sources, 2) developing and teaching core curriculum and elective courses in the related fields, and 3) participating in department, college, university, and public service.
Required Qualifications
The successful candidate must have an earned doctorate degree in Civil Engineering or a closely related field by the start date of the appointment, and a demonstrated track record of scholarly achievement in independent research projects. The candidate is expected to establish a thriving, externally funded research program and contribute to undergraduate and graduate teaching and mentoring in one or more of the following disciplines: construction, environment, infrastructure, geotechnics, materials, structure, transportation, and water.

The College of Engineering is home to seven departments: Bioengineering; Civil Engineering; Computer Science and Engineering; Electrical Engineering; Industrial, Manufacturing, and Systems Engineering; Materials Science and Engineering; and Mechanical and Aerospace Engineering. With more than 7,000 students, the College is the third-largest in Texas and offers the most comprehensive engineering degree programs in the region. It offers 10 baccalaureate, 14 master’s, and 9 doctoral degree programs and has ties to numerous Fortune 500 companies in the region. The Civil Engineering Department has enjoyed significant growth in recent years and enjoys a robust research enterprise in the areas of construction engineering and management; environmental engineering; geotechnical engineering; infrastructure system engineering and management; structural engineering and mechanics; transportation engineering; and water resources engineering, with per-faculty research expenditures totaling more than $320,000. In addition, the department works with many top civil engineering firms in the Dallas-Fort Worth area, as well as the Texas Department of Transportation, NOAA and other government agencies.
