Open Postdoctoral position, faculty mentor Joelle Rosser

The Rosser lab is seeking to appoint a Postdoctoral Research Fellow to join a project evaluating the impacts of flooding and trash on infectious disease risk in Indonesia and Fiji. The Postdoctoral Research Fellow will join an interdisciplinary team of physician researchers, epidemiologists, and environmental scientists using multi-modal approaches to evaluate the impact of these environmental drivers on infectious disease transmission pathways. Our group is validating and utilizing novel approaches to mapping trash and flood microclimates, using high resolution satellite and unmanned aerial vehicle remote sensing data in combination with ground truth data to evaluate a range of infectious diseases prevalent throughout the Asia-Pacific. Our lab uses a combination of publicly available data and primary data collection. Our lab emphasizes deploying novel strategies to evaluate the impacts of environmental change on human health, in order to better design and test interventions to mitigate the harmful impacts of climate change. The position is geared for a recent PhD graduate with interest in collaborating across disciplines, and expertise in remote sensing, spatial data analysis, machine learning and computer vision.
The position will be based at Stanford University. The fellowship has two primary goals: to advance research program on the health impacts of environmental change (with a focus on trash and floods), and to develop the career and interests of the Fellow. The Fellow will work alongside faculty and other research staff at Stanford. Developing the research program will entail supporting the team with compiling and analyzing geospatial datasets, developing and testing algorithms for complex image classification, optimizing data collection strategies for unmanned aerial vehicle imaging, and leading the drafting of manuscripts. In addition, the Fellow will have opportunities to partner and collaborate with faculty and programs across the University and with our research partners in Indonesia and Fiji.
