Faculty in Stanford Medicine and Stanford Earth are seeking to appoint a Postdoctoral Research Fellow to join a National Institutes of Health-funded project on the health impacts of natural hazards, with a focus on population health in low- and middle-income countries. The Postdoctoral Research Fellow will join an interdisciplinary team of physician researchers, epidemiologists, environmental scientists, and economists focused on environmental and climatic drivers of population health. Our group studies and measures major challenges and opportunities to health improvements among vulnerable populations using novel data sources, geospatial analyses, and cutting-edge quantitative methods. The position is geared for a recent PhD graduate with interest in collaborating across disciplines, and expertise in natural hazard and climate modeling (especially extreme heat), and spatial data analysis.
The position will be based at Stanford University. The fellowship has two primary goals: to advance research program on the health impacts of natural hazards (especially extreme heat), and to develop the career and interests of the Fellow. The Fellow will work alongside faculty and other research staff at Stanford (School of Medicine and Stanford Earth). Developing the research program will entail supporting the team with modeling of extreme heat hazards, compiling and analyzing geospatial datasets on health and hazards, and leading the drafting of manuscripts. In addition, the fellow will have opportunities to partner and collaborate with faculty and programs across the University.
Appointment Details
The fellowship is a one-year appointment, with the option to extend. Start date is flexible, with a plan to start before April, 2024. The expected base pay range for this position exceeds Stanford guidelines, and is listed in the Pay Range field. The pay offered to the selected candidate will be determined based on factors including (but not limited to) the qualifications of the selected candidate and budget availability. Funding includes a living stipend plus certain medical, dental, vision, and life insurance coverage through Stanford's Postdoctoral Scholars program. The balance of in-person and remote work can be negotiated with the faculty mentors up front.
