Online Student Services Specialist

Summary

As an Online Student Services Specialist (P2), you will play a pivotal role as a fully competent and productive professional in providing Best-in-Class advising services to Purdue University online graduate students under general supervision. In this position, you will be responsible for ensuring the seamless progression and successful graduation of online graduate students pursuing certificates, master’s, or doctoral degrees.

 

Key Responsibilities:

  • Onboarding and Registration: Support the onboarding process for new online students and ensure timely and efficient student registration.
  • Communication and Support: Using predesigned communication plans, effectively communicate with students and with caseload, offering guidance and support throughout the academic journey.
  • Problem-Solving: Use problem-solving skills to address challenges and facilitate a positive student experience.
  • Collaboration: Work collaboratively with teams across Purdue University Online and engage with campus partners and stakeholders (including the Offices of the Registrar and Bursar, Financial Aid, Dean of Students, Graduate School, and program leads/chairs) in support of students.
  • Programmatic Support: Provide essential programmatic support and complete administrative duties to contribute to the overall efficiency and success of online graduate programs.

 

As a Senior Online Student Services Specialist (P3), you will play a pivotal role as a seasoned professional in providing Best-in-Class advising services to Purdue University online graduate students with limited supervision. In this position, you will be responsible for ensuring the seamless progression and successful graduation of online graduate students pursuing certificates, master's, or doctoral degrees.

 

Key Responsibilities:

  • Onboarding and Registration: Develop the onboarding process for new online students and ensure timely and efficient student registration. Create a safe and inclusive academic advising environment that extends a genuine welcome to students, fostering an atmosphere of acceptance and support throughout their educational journey. 
  • Communication and Support: Inform design and development of effective communication plans for use with students and with caseloads, offering guidance and support throughout the academic journey.
  • Problem-Solving: Use problem-solving skills to address challenges and facilitate a positive student experience. Make moderate to significant improvements of processes, systems, or products to enhance performance of area.
  • Collaboration: Build collaborations with teams across Purdue University Online and engage with campus partners and stakeholders (including the Offices of the Registrar and Bursar, Financial Aid, Dean of Students, Graduate School, and program leads/chairs) in support of students. Contribute and manage development of resources to support other advising staff.
  • Programmatic Support: Identify opportunities for enhancing programmatic support and streamlining administrative duties to contribute to the overall efficiency and success of online graduate programs.

 

This is a Dual Level posting to be filled as a P2/P3 level, based on education, experience, and skills.
 

This position will be hired as fully remote.            


What We’re Looking For:

Education and Experience:
As the Online Student Services Specialist (P2) you will need: 

  • Bachelor’s degree in business/management, higher education, student development or related field  
  • Two years’ working with academic advising or online student services experience 
  • In lieu of degree, consideration will be given to an equivalent combination of education and experience

 

Skills Needed: 

  • Must have outstanding interpersonal, organizational, and written/oral communications skills
  • Capable of planning for, managing, and executing events, programs, and administrative processes
  • Ability to:
    • attend to details and provide excellent customer service
    • interact positively with a diverse population, collaborate across organizational departments, think creatively, and work independently
    • identify and understand student service issues, client needs, and matters of a recurring nature to effectively address and resolve the issue
    • collect, research, and analyze information for processing, monitoring, or measuring data
  • Initiate creative programming to engage student participation

 

What is helpful (Preferred):

  • Master’s degree

 

As the Senior Online Student Services Specialist (P3) you will need the above and below: 

  • Four years working with academic advising or online student services experience

  • Non-standard work hours (ex: evenings, weekend) may occasionally be required – particularly during peak enrollment periods; advanced notice will be provided
