Job Description

This role will drive an essential part of the Learning Enterprise mission to create stackable pathways to career mobility and degree attainment. You will support the delivery of a group of discipline-specific courses ( Mathematics) at scale, thus providing thousands of learners with foundational learning in this critical discipline area that will enable them to find a pathway to higher education and economic mobility.  

As a key member of the ULC academic infrastructure, reporting to Foundational Learning leadership (within Learning Enterprise), and the Faculty of Record in regard to course objectives and content, you will support high-quality instruction at scale, introducing thousands of learners to the discipline. You will be responsible for managing affiliated personnel; graders, teaching assistants, and instructional aides-PRNs, who support your group of discipline-specific courses ensuring the best quality learner experience. You will partner with the ULC instructional design team and student success team to deliver the courses effectively. You will provide input and support the Faculty of Record, as the subject matter expert, in course revisions, session prep, and redesigns to improve courses for greater learner success over time. You will also work closely with your Faculty of Record throughout each session as you facilitate the delivery of their course; 

This position and salary will be reviewed and renewed annually. This is a temporary position, it may terminate when the work is no longer available. Additionally, this position is funded in whole or part by sources other than general operating appropriation and may terminate when funding is no longer available.

Hybrid work is an arrangement where employees spend a minimum of 60% of their regular workweek at their primary ASU work location. Dean or vice president-level approval is required.

Salary Range

$55,000 - $65,000 per year; DOE

Essential Duties

In your first year, you will:

Run operations for MAT 142 (College Mathematics), MAT 117 (College Algebra), MAT 170 (Precalculus) MAT 210 (Brief Calculus) & MAT 265 (Calculus for Engineers) (all delivery models- Session-Based and On-Demand, to maximize learner success and potential for scalability, specifically: 

• Provide engaged presence on in-course discussion boards, answering learner questions, providing feedback and stimulating discussion, learning and community building among learners
• Supervise Teaching Assistants for the courses, including training (within Foundational Learning systems), feedback quality, norming and pace 
• Resolve learner issues in consultation with the Faculty of Record
• Meet regularly with Faculty of Record and Teaching Assistants to discuss course and learner performance

Participate in course evaluation and iteration to improve learner experiences

• Help define course-specific metrics for success and work with student success designers to ensure appropriate data is collected and analyzed
• Collaborate with and support the Faculty of Record on course development/revision needs, as well as preparing courses for each session
  

Minimum Qualifications

Bachelor's degree in a related field with 4 years experience in an alternative educational environment and 2 years in a supervisory role OR, Any equivalent combination of experience and/or education from which comparable knowledge, skills, and abilities have been achieved.

Desired Qualifications

• You have a Masters or PhD in Mathematics, or related field
• You have an understanding of inclusive teaching and design, especially as related to math instruction
• You have experience teaching ASU MAT 142 (College Mathematics), MAT 117 (College Algebra), MAT 170 (Precalculus) MAT 210 (Brief Calculus) & MAT 265 (Calculus for Engineers) or equivalent courses at other institutions, including at least one year in a fully remote environment
• You have enthusiasm for high enrollment courses / scaling courses 
• You are obsessed with designing ways to use technology to support and enhance course delivery at scale
• You are excited about data and how it can be used to inform learning interventions
• You enjoy working as part of a team to deliver content and support learners at scale
• You are proficient working in Canvas to create / manage all aspects of a course and have experience with the ALEKS adaptive platform
• You possess a demonstrated passion for the work of Arizona State University and our commitment to engaging a broad range of learners
• You have demonstrated the ability to work independently, exercising good judgment that prioritizes learner experience and success

Working Environment

• Activities are performed in an environmentally controlled office setting subject to extended periods of sitting, keyboarding and manipulating a computer mouse; required to stand for varying lengths of time and walk moderate distances to perform work.
• Frequent bending, reaching, lifting, pushing and pulling up to 25 pounds.
• Regular activities require ability to quickly change priorities, which may include and/or are subject to resolution of conflicts.
• May be required to perform tasks in the field within and/or across University campuses. 
• Ability to clearly communicate to perform essential functions.
• This position is Hybrid/Remote off-campus at our Scottsdale Skysong location.
