City Colleges of Chicago (CCC), the largest community college system in Illinois, is made up of seven colleges and five satellite sites, providing more than 70,000 students each year access to a quality, affordable education.

One Summer Chicago is an initiative that provides youth with employment and enrichment opportunities during the summer months. One Summer Chicago offers summer employment to youth between the ages of 14 and 24. Most programs are between 20 and 25 hours per week.

PRIMARY OBJECTIVE

The One Summer Chicago initiative encourages students to gain experience in their prospective fields by placing them in areas and departments aligned with their area of study whenever possible. Students are able to use their wages towards educational and living expenses.

One Summer Chicago jobs are available in areas such as academic departments, laboratories, libraries, administrative offices, student centers and off-campus locations.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES:

  • Student will assist at reception desk, greeting students, faculty and staff entering office
  • Assists staff in the day-to-day functions of the Office. 
  • Provides support on various projects and assignments as needed. 
  • Provides general office support including but not limited to filing, faxing, photocopying, and Data entry. 
  • Adheres to the City Colleges of Chicago Customer Services Excellence Standards.
  • Specific duties are assigned based on department

ACCESS Center

  • Reception/office duties such as receiving phone calls, scanning, copies etc.
  • Creating of Flyers, RSVP lists, and other marketing materials
  • Assist with Student events, etc.
  • Inventory/organization of storage rooms.
  • Mini project to digitalize files

Auxiliary Services

  • Filling
  • Customer Service – phone inquiries and message documentation
  • Inventory inspections

Business Office

  • Interns will be responsible for providing clerical support to the office
  • Assist with files management
  • Assist with updating financial spreadsheets, reviewing invoices
  • Assisting College Bursars with various transactions and tasks.

Career Development

  • Assists with welcoming our students in the career center
  • Assists with flyers and presentation content
  • Assists with headshots for students and staff
  • Provides general office support 
  • Assist with STEM programming
  • Adheres to the City Colleges of Chicago Customer Service Excellence Standards.

Facilities Management

  • Internal/External grounds inspection support
  • Posting reviews
  • Filing/organization of documents
  • Disposal assistance

Information Technology

  • Assist in receipt, shipment, and organization of equipment and supplies.
  • Aid end-users with basic PC and mobile equipment and software needs.
  • Provision and configure PC and mobile equipment.
  • Compile, summarize, and report data for IT operations.
  • Provide excellent customer service   

Janitorial Services

  • Customer Service – phone inquiries and message documentation
  • Water Filter Check
  • Light bulb outage checks

Print Shop

  • Booklet assembly
  • Equipment cleaning
  • Customer Service – phone inquiries and message documentation

Registrar

  • Filing
  • Answering phones
  • Creating TAB folders
  • Uploading student documents into TAB
  • Special assignments as assigned

School of Nursing

  • Assists with the preparation of the nursing labs.
  • Assists lab coordinators in lab supply maintenance.
  • Assists with upkeep of laboratory equipment and cleanliness of lab
  • Provides general office support including but not limited to filing, faxing, photocopying, word processing

Security

  • Answer phone
  • Greet visitors, students, and faculty
  • Foot patrol with a security officer
  • Weekend availability is preferred

Student Activities

  • Reception/office duties such as receiving phone calls, scanning, copies etc.

  • UPASS/Ventra troubleshooting
  • Assist with Student events, etc.
  • Inventory/organization of storage rooms.

Student Services

  • Reception/office duties such as receiving phone calls, scanning, copies etc.

  • Mini project to digitalize files.
  • Assist with Student events, etc.
  • Inventory/organization of storage rooms.

Wellness Center

  • Provide assistance in programming events, table events, and outreach.
  • Support with the Fresh Market (food pantry).

 

QUALIFICATIONS

Eligibility Requirements:

  • Applicants must be 18 years or older
  • Have work permit consent, and eligible to work in the United States
  • Be a City of Chicago resident
  • Current City Colleges of Chicago students that were or are enrolled in Spring 2024, Summer 2024, or Fall 2024
  • Completed the One Summer Chicago online application here

Minimum Qualifications: 

  • Available to participate in the program from June 24, 2024 and end on August 2, 2024. These dates may be subject to change depending on the department/partner organization.
  • Experience with Microsoft Office programs
  • Excellent oral communication skills.
  • Excellent customer service skills.
  • Promotes a positive role model and favorable public image as City Colleges of Chicago representative.
  • Adheres to the City Colleges of Chicago Customer Services Excellence Standards.
  • Good interpersonal skills with a positive attitude and demonstrably self-motivated.
