The Samuel Oschin Cancer Center, nationally ranked by U.S. News & World Report, treats more than 60 types of cancer. Its team of experts works to create a treatment plan to meet each patient's specific needs. The center's outpatient infusion center offers chemotherapy and supportive services, including 18 private rooms for treatment sessions six hours or longer.

A Clinical Nurse II (CN II) is a competent clinician who provides nursing care in a skilled and effective manner. You will utilize appropriate decision making skills and exhibit competence in the technical, interpersonal and cognitive abilities required to independently and safely manage routine patient assignment. The Clinical Nurse II establishes a plan of care, sets goals, determines priorities, and provides care within established standards of practice.


 

Summary of Essential Duties:

  • Coordinates and provides nurse visits for a variety of oncology patients, including IV starts, CT IV starts, PICC line access and flushing, and Port Catheter blood draws

  • Provides and accurately documents direct and indirect patient care services that ensures the safety, comfort, personal hygiene, and protection of patients in a timely manner

  • Administration of medications and therapeutic agents necessary to implement treatment, disease prevention, or rehabilitative plan of care

  • Performs skin tests, immunizations, phlebotomy and the initiation of peripheral venous access

  • Implements appropriate reporting, referrals and care in accordance with standardized procedures

  • Initiates emergency procedures when indicated

  • Demonstrates knowledge and is able to identify and make special adjustments as required to the specific populations needs, including cultural, spiritual, age, psychosocial, communication, gender, sexual orientation, economic, education, family and condition needs


 

Qualifications:

Education:

  • Graduate of an accredited nursing program required

  • Bachelor's of Science, Nursing (BSN) preferred

License/Certifications:

  • Current, unrestricted California RN License required

  • BLS from the American Heart Association or American Red Cross required

  • OCN Preferred

  • ONS Chemotherapy and Biotherapy Provider Card

Experience:

  • A minimum of 1 year of acute care nursing experience required

  • Oncology nursing experience preferred

  • Competency in intravenous skills and vascular access device management required

  • Minimum 2 years chemotherapy administration experience.
