Job Description

Under limited direction, the Senior HR Business Partner (HRBP) is the main point of contact for employees and managers to provide support on performance management, coaching, HR fundamentals, and employee related questions. This role is critical in executing unit/college key initiatives that support the business objectives and organization growth plans. The Senior HRBP is responsible for developing and improving processes related to employee management and engagement and will drive HR functional excellence within assigned units/colleges.

Essential Duties

•    Provide dedicated HR support to employees and managers with specific focus on optimizing engagement, productivity, and effectiveness of the human resources within teams; including oversight (potentially with direct reports) of process training, employee relations, performance management, compensation planning, employee engagement, career development, change initiatives, and talent acquisition within units/colleges.
•    Strategically partner with functional leaders to create and support an inclusive culture focused on open communication, accountability, diversity, and creating talent development opportunities.
•    Partner with the functional leaders to assess capabilities across the teams and strategically plan workforce needs accordingly; ensure that appropriate training opportunities are identified and provided to employees to grow personal, career, and organizational development capabilities.
•    Provide guidance for questions and consultation related to HR topics and issues; properly identify and effectively resolve routine and complex employee relations issues.
•    Develop recruitment and retention strategies to identify, attract, engage, and retain high-performing talent; partner with recruiting team to identify proactive pipeline talent opportunities for future needs.
•    Regularly report on HR metrics for leadership team to be able to address attrition rates, performance management metrics, employee satisfaction levels, etc.
•    Lead and/or assist with key HR initiatives; including performance management processes, employee engagement, talent development, onboarding, and training.
•    Identify HR process and transactional optimization opportunities and work with HR team to streamline and align processes.

•    Play a key role in promoting ASU’s values and culture as the organization goes through a period of growth and innovation; provide necessary resources and guidance around change management, effective communication, and promote cross-functional collaboration.
•    Maintain and protect confidential data with utmost scrutiny, judgment, and care and ensure awareness of and compliance with employment regulations and laws.


Minimum Qualifications

Bachelor’s Degree in Human Resource Management, Business, Organizational Management, or related discipline and eight (8) years of progressive HR generalist experience Or, any equivalent combination of experience or education from which comparable knowledge, skills and abilities have been achieved. 


Desired Qualifications

Master’s Degree (MBA, MLR, MHR, etc.). Human resources generalist and/or manager experience in higher education setting.  Strong business acumen; including comfort with accountability to business metrics, ability to make sense out of complexity, and ability to understand business financials and to think strategically and take appropriate actions.

•    Knowledge and understanding of Federal and State employment laws, Investigation Skills, HR technical knowledge in EEO, ADA, FMLA, ADA, unemployment and worker’s compensation.
•    Coaching and consulting skills with demonstrated record of problem-solving and organizational development diagnosis skills.
•    Strong communications skills; interpersonal, oral, and written.
•    Strong analytical and conceptual thinking skills; ability to analyze data.
•    Ability to work with all levels of employees and management within the organization.
•    Ability to prioritize workload and self-manage projects handle multiple tasks and meet strict deadlines.
•    Ability to lead by example in communicating, participating and encouraging support of the institution’s sustainability programs.
•    Ability to stimulate changes in individual, institutional and corporate behaviors to create a more sustainable environment.


Working Environment

•    Activities are performed in an environmentally controlled office setting subject to extended periods of sitting, keyboarding and manipulating a computer mouse 75 percent; required to stand for varying lengths of time and walk moderate distances to perform work 10 percent.
•    Ability to clearly communicate verbally, read, write, see and hear to perform essential functions.
•    Frequent bending, reaching, lifting, pushing and pulling up to 25 pounds 15 percent.
•    Regular activities require ability to quickly change priorities, which may include or are subject to resolution of conflicts.
