Job Summary
 

Works with Office of Sustainability staff, interns, student staff, and members of the KSU community to further sustainability initiatives related to reducing the environmental impact of university's operations, promote environmental awareness and education, and support associated research. Develops, organizes, and implements educational, engagement, and operation-improvement programs on campus and coordinates community outreach and engagement opportunities with external partners.


Responsibilities
 

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES: 
1. Develops, prepares, and coordinates assigned programs and assists in developing new programming
2. Collaborates with KSU administration, faculty, staff, and students to promote the long-term strategy and success of the university's sustainability initiatives
3. Identifies, advocates for, and supports the implementation of conservation strategies, especially relating to energy and water consumption, transportation and waste management
4. Serves as liaison between university stakeholders coordinating resources and facilitating communication on sustainability projects and programs
5. Develops and supports relationships with external community partners in support of strategic programs and projects
6. Assists in defining sustainability goals and tracking performance in key sustainability metrics
7. Supports annual and semi-annual sustainability reporting to third-party institutions, including, but not limited to Second Nature (GHG inventory and Climate Action Plan)
8. Develops, maintains and facilitates internal training and education materials and programming
9. Supports university department in the implementation and tracking of conservation initiatives
10. Manages sustainability interns and provides mentorship to Green Ambassadors
11. Contributes content for website and marketing materials to share progress of sustainability initiatives including, but not limited to, newsletters and articles
12. Represents the Sustainability Program by serving on relevant committees
13. Engages in continuing education opportunities by attending professional development courses, self-directed professional reading and participating in industry interest groups


Required Qualifications
 

Educational Requirements
Bachelor's from an accredited institution of higher education in related field.
Required Experience
Two (2) years of experience working on environmental, sustainability, conservation, and/or energy-related programming and/or policy work including experience in developing and implementing programs and projects within an organization.


Preferred Qualifications
 

Additional Preferred Qualifications
Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) certification
Preferred Educational Qualifications
An advanced degree from an accredited institution of higher education in a related field
Degree in Environmental Studies, Environmental Engineering or related field

ABILITIES
Demonstrated ability to think strategically and actively contribute to the creation and implementation of short and long-range departmental goals
Able to work collaboratively with individuals at various levels across the university and externally
Able to handle multiple tasks or projects at one time meeting assigned deadlines and competing needs
KNOWLEDGE
Understanding of energy and water conservation best practices; ability to interpret consumption data and discuss the information with students, faculty, staff and administrators
Understanding recycling best practices
Knowledge of a broad range of sustainability issues, especially as they impact universities and colleges
SKILLS
Excellent interpersonal, initiative, teamwork, problem solving, independent judgment, organization, communication (verbal and written), time management, project management and presentation skills
Proficient with computer applications and programs associated with the position (i.e., Microsoft Office suite)
Strong attention to detail and follow up skills
Strong customer service skills and phone and e-mail etiquette
