Position Summary
This recruitment will be used to fill five part-time (a maximum of 24 hours per week) Office Intern for the ASOSU at Oregon State University (OSU).
The Office of Advocacy is looking for passionate interns to join our team in Fall 2023. This recruitment will be used to fill 5 part-time (a maximum of 24 hours per week) Office Intern positions for our office. As an intern, you will work to advocate on behalf of students by assisting in policy change, educating students about their rights, and by working with the greater campus community to collaborate on issues facing students. After a year as an intern, student employees have the opportunity to train and be selected to serve as Peer Advocates, who work directly with students on conduct cases and other issues, providing support and resources.
The ASOSU Office of Advocacy provides individual advocacy to all students with regard to issues within the university. We do this with a team of students who are committed to making our university a supportive environment for all. In everything we do, we are always working in the best interest of students.
Position Duties
  • Interns are the face of the Office of Advocacy who greet visitors in person, answer emails, and take phone calls.
  • Complete clerical tasks such as scheduling appointments, entering client data, and maintaining case files
  • Participate in office projects on our Policy, Marketing and Data teams
  • Work collaboratively by attending onboarding, trainings, presentations, and staff meetings

  • Must be academically enrolled in a high school, community college, or university and pursuing a program or course of study
  • Must meet Academic Standing Requirements; students on academic suspension are not eligible for employment
  • Must meet the applicable minimal enrollment standard
    • High School student: Regularly enrolled in a high school or participating in a home-schooling program
    • Undergraduate and post-baccalaureate student: 6 credit hours per term
    • Undergraduate international student: 12 credit hours per term*
    • Graduate student officially admitted to Graduate School: 5 credit hours per term
    • Graduate international student officially admitted to Graduate School: 9 credit hours per term*

*International students may be allowed to carry fewer hours than specified above and still be considered “full-time” by the United States Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS). A reduced course load is approved by the Office of International Services (OIS), and must be provided to the Student Employment Center.

  • Have 3 or more terms left before graduation
  • Ability to interact with people from different cultures, backgrounds and identities

This position is designated as a critical or security-sensitive position; therefore, the incumbent must successfully complete a criminal history check and be determined to be position qualified as per OSU Standard 576-055-0000 et seq. Incumbents are required to self-report convictions and those in youth programs may have additional criminal history checks every 24 months.

  • 2 years or more left before graduation
  • Experience working with individuals with diverse, intersecting identities, including (but not limited to the following):
  • Race, color, national origin (including international students), scheduled/oppressed caste, religion, disability, sex, gender identity, sexual orientation, age, marital status, first-generation students, student parents
  • Computer science, coding and/or data experience
  • Marketing and/or policy experience
  • Additional language fluency (other than English)
