This position serves as the Office Administrator and first-point-of-contact for students, staff, and faculty in the Writing Center, which is a high-volume student service area. Individual receives and directs clients; provides information about programs and services; schedules appointments; inputs and monitors usage data; interprets policy for employees and students; hires, trains, and supervises student employees; plans and supervises publicity efforts; and provides event support. The incumbent coordinates a variety of administrative tasks, including scheduling peer and faculty tutor work hours each term, assisting students and faculty with scheduling and appointment questions, purchasing supplies in coordination with the fiscal manager and business coordinator, providing oversight of the Writing Center during hours of operation, and compiling annual report figures and other various support tasks for the Director and Associate Director. This position acts as a liaison between the Writing Center and the English Departmental staff, advising, facilities management, campus police, telecommunications, and other offices/units across campus to solve problems. Requires good interpersonal skills, the ability to deal with a high volume of public contact, and the ability to stay organized when multiple tasks are happening at once.



Job Summary

Performs administrative assistant support work of moderate complexity.


Essential Functions 

The ability to manage multiple tasks at one time; interpersonal communication, being able to comprehend verbal and written inquiries about services and to respond to inquiries appropriately; ability to input and translate computer data; skilled in the Microsoft Office Suite; and the ability to learn new software in a timely manner. 


Physical Effort 

Primarily sedentary; however, the incumbent must have the ability to move around the space and handle light physical tasks.
