Job Description Summary

Reporting to the Library Director, the Senior Librarian, Open Educational Resources (OER) builds relationships with faculty, students, and staff to support teaching, learning, and research. The OER Librarian develops strategies for increasing the use of open educational resources, and alternative textbook and course material solutions at Bentley University by advocating for OER adoption with faculty; assisting with implementation in courses; developing relationships with campus partners to promote student success; and assessing the impact of OER on the Library’s equitable access efforts.

Essential Duties

  • Support faculty, staff, and students with services, outreach, and instruction related to scholarly communication and publishing, including: copyright fair use and permissions; author rights; licensing; information policy; affordable course content, such as open educational resources
  • Consult with faculty, researchers, and students regarding Open Education Resources (OER) and copyright-related research needs
  • Monitor and report on trends, legal requirements, and best practices regarding copyright-related scholarly publishing issues, public access to research and data, and OER's latest developments, and best practices related to OER
  • Develop methods for assessing and reporting impact, effectiveness, and relevance of OER adoption
  • Strategize with Library Director on how to advance OER adoption on campus and promote its usage through scholarly communication outreach
  • Primary contact for Scholars @ Bentley, institutional repository for the intellectual output of Bentley University
  • Pursue professional development opportunities in support of the library and its OER related initiatives
  • Represent Bentley Library as a member of the BLC’s Open Educational Resources Community of Interest to support and expand the use of open educational resources across the BLC member libraries

Minimum Requirements

  • MLS/MLIS from an ALA accredited institution, with 2-5 years in reference service, library instruction, and OER programming
  • Experience with or demonstrated commitment to developing inclusive and equitable learning experiences
  • Experience in an academic setting that demonstrates excellent communication, interpersonal, and organizational skills  
  • Ability to manage multiple projects at once with minimal supervision, effectively leveraging resources and meeting deadlines
  • Possess facility with technologies associated with open educational resources
  • Understand copyright, open licensing, fair use, author rights, archiving rights, and how to apply and interpret Creative Commons licenses
  • Working knowledge of making documents, websites, and media ADA-accessible

Work Environment

  • Typical office setting with extensive sitting and computer work
  • Ability to travel around campus for meetings and other work related events
