Description:

Position Summary
Under supervision of the Director of Physician Practice, the Occupational Health Nurse is responsible to provide the clinical nursing support for the University Health Service. Provides clinical support for all UHS activities, including new hire/ volunteer screens, multiple surveillance programs (e.g. TB screening, Flu vaccination, other) and work ability evaluations. Participates in preventative health and safety programs for both internal and external customers (employees)

Duties & Responsibilities

  • Clinical 90%
  • Performs history and assessments for employees and volunteers related to new hires, surveillance, employee illness/injury, returning to work or other wellness visit.
  • Provide vaccinations to employees and volunteers to comply with Infection control policies, exposures and research protocols, and to patients of the Travel Clinic.
  • Performs technical skills as needed:
  • Audiometric testing for employees in hearing conservation
  • Spirometry
  • EKG
  • Breath Alcohol testing (BAT)
  • Venipuncture or other specimen collection
  • Titmus and Snellen vision tests
  • Fit testing for the N95 respirator
  • Implements regulatory surveillance assessments for TB, other infectious disease exposures, blood borne pathogen exposures, biological or chemical research, hearing, respiratory protection, and asbestos.
  • Coordinates and performs tests in UHS and coordinates referrals for outside testing
  • Review incoming laboratory and other diagnostic study reports and initiate follow up in cases with abnormal results.
  • Providing education to employees
  • Utilizes the Agility EMR through imputing employee data, charting, uploading documents etc.
  • Assists in Precept Public Health Nursing students from the College of Nursing
  • Other clinical duties as assigned 10%
  • Qualifications:

    Minimum Qualifications

  • Eligibility for licensure as a Registered Professional Nurse with the Illinois Department of Financial and Professional Regulation, Division of Professional Regulation.
  • Current AHA BLS/CPR and other required unit specific certifications
  • Effective communication skills (oral and written) that facilitate therapeutic relationships between patients, family, and health care providers
  • Intermediate computer skills with the ability to become proficient in the Electronic Health Record (EHR) with on-the-job training
  • Excellent attendance, interpersonal skills and work history required.
  • 2 years of Occupational health Nursing experience required.
  • Preferred Qualifications

    Certified in Occupational Health Nursing preferred.

    Certified to do Pulmonary function tests, audiometric tests, breath alcohol and urine drug testing preferred.
