Summary:
Serve as the primary contact for UIS Pre-Nursing
Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Support successful student transitions to UIS, from first inquiry to application. Recruit and act as a point of contact for UIS pre-nursing students and respond to questions about program. Provide students with basic admissions and financial counseling. Visit area schools with UIC Nursing and assist with development of outreach programs. Become familiar with UIS Pre-Nursing and UIC Nursing classes and faculty to speak with authority to students during the recruitment and application process.
  • Support successful student transitions to UIS, from enrollment to transition to UIC Nursing program. Recruit UIS pre-nursing students and transition students from prospective status to yielded registration. Work with students to develop educational plans that are consistent with their educational and life goals. Provide students with information regarding registration and student success initiatives to support their educational journey. Visit local career fairs and the UIC School of Nursing programs to build outreach programs. Become familiar with UIS Pre-Nursing and UIC Nursing classes and faculty to speak with authority to students during the registration process.
  • Increase UIS student retention by providing a personal contact that connects students to UIS. Coach students to engage UIS Pre-Nursing students with appropriate campus resources that will enhance their ability to be academically successful. Engagement will be encouraged between students and financial aid counseling, tutoring, career pathway counseling, and other areas that support their personal academic to career journey. Participate in orientation, recruitment, and retention activities as a representative of UIS (may include activities that require evening and weekend work). Assist students with understanding academic to career pathways.
  • Work with UIS and UIC stakeholders to ensure coordinated UIS Pre-Nursing efforts. Utilize data to make recommendations on courses for Pre-Nursing students. Collaborate with advisors and faculty as needed to support student success. Engage with UIS stakeholders to stay up-to-date on academic program requirements, student success program offerings and other UIS program policies and initiatives. Attend UIS-UIC collaboration meetings.

  • Minimum Qualifications:
    Bachelor’s degree.
    Experience with postsecondary admissions and/or financial aid or related student services.

    Preferred Qualifications:
    Master’s degree preferred.
    Understanding of nursing curricula and licensure preferred. 

    Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:
    Demonstrated ability to relate well to a diverse population of faculty, staff, students, and parents, including underserved populations and first-generation students and parents.
    Excellent oral and written communication skills with an appropriate understanding of the needs of the audience and appropriate professionalism.
    Demonstrated ability to work reliably and independently, with minimal supervision, in the scheduling and delivery of student services and in the leadership and management of multiple, time-sensitive projects.
