The University of Arkansas - Pulaski Technical College in North Little Rock, Arkansas, is accepting applications for a Nursing Programs Clinical and Simulation Coordinator position.
Project Description: The steepest healthcare workforce shortages in the State of Arkansas, especially in lower-income urban and rural areas, directly impact the delivery of essential health services to high-need communities. To address this dire healthcare workforce need, a statewide consortium of six of Arkansas’ public two-year institutions has been awarded $5.7 million for the Bridging Healthcare Workforce Shortages in Arkansas (BRIDGE-AR) initiative. The institutions are as follows:

BRIDGE-AR assembles a collaboration of employers, workforce organizations, and training providers to address essential local labor needs. The initiative’s strategies are designed to impact underserved communities, especially Black/African American and Hispanic/Latino in the Nursing and Emergency Medical Technician (EMT) pathways. These occupations are primary labor needs in the state and provide career progression and family-sustaining wages in local communities.
Position Summary
Reporting to the Dean of the School of Science, Mathematics, and Allied Health, the Clinical and Simulation Coordinator will provide clinical and administrative support for the Allied Health programs, including maintenance of inventory, completion of student clinical rotation requirements, maintenance of clinical agreements, scheduling rooms, preparing simulation sessions, developing simulation scenarios, and delivery of simulation experiences. The Clinical and Simulation Coordinator will also be responsible for monitoring data on simulation center usage and other areas to enhance usage.
*This position is funded 100% by the BRIDGE AR DOL Grant. As such, the Clinical and Simulation Coordinator assists the Dean of the School of Science, Math, and Allied Health with implementing the objectives established in the grant for this federally-funded activity.
Essential functions
• Assists program directors, faculty, and students in the lab setting with integration of simulation into the curriculum.
• Supervises and evaluates students’ progress in meeting designated program student learning outcomes (PSLOs) and course student learning outcomes (CSLOs) and reports progress to course faculty and program directors through end of term reports.
• Coordinates and schedules use of labs for all functions, including: regular classes, special class sections, open lab, advanced clinical skills, and clinical skills evaluation.
• Collaborates with the Dean of Nursing to establish, review, and research policies, standard practices, and procedures related to the skills and simulation lab with a focus on continuous quality improvement.
• Collaborates with course faculty in planning, designing, organizing, and delivering lab and simulation activities to meet the needs and schedule of the course.
• Collaborates with the nursing faculty to coordinate the complementary blending of lab practice, simulation, virtual simulation and the clinical experience.
• Researches, develops, updates, collaborates, and refines lab and clinical scenarios for the nursing programs based on student and faculty needs and reflective of current practice standards.
• Ensures safety and maintains OSHA standards within the simulation lab; to include appropriate disposal of hazardous waste and sharps
• Keeps current with safety standards and informs the Dean of Nursing of changes in standards.
• Monitors inventory and orders necessary supplies for the skills and simulation lab, including performing the annual inventory.
• Ensures maintenance of simulation manikins and other equipment in the skills and simulation lab; initiates repair and maintains appropriate warranties.
• Provides orientation to instructors regarding the policies, procedures and use of the simulation lab.
• Collaborates with the nursing faculty to coordinate the complementary blending of lab practice, simulation, virtual simulation and the clinical experience.
• Assists students and faculty in meeting course objectives through the utilization of the skills and simulation lab activities.
• Oversees utilization of the skills and simulation lab and equipment.
• Serves as a resource and support for Health Programs faculty in utilizing the simulation lab.
• Collaborates with Nursing faculty to provide student remediation in the lab setting.
• Utilizes and emphasizes instructional methods that promote the development of critical thinking, problem solving, decision-making, and clinical competency for real life application.
• Conducts tours for internal/external stakeholders.
• Provides and develops all training for clinical learning lab faculty regarding the administration of at the beginning of each term to include lab equipment, changes to curriculum, software, and/or supplies to be used.
• Orders, prepares, and organizes equipment and supplies to be utilized in the clinical learning lab.
• Manages all aspects of the clinical placement process and ensures effective operation of clinical practicums by organizing, supervising, and evaluating clinical sites, preceptors & students. Responsibilities include but are not limited to the following:
• Ensuring effective operation of clinical practicums by organizing, supervising & evaluating clinical sites, preceptors & students.
• Monitoring student placements and clinical records.
• Maintaining and obtaining contracts, mandatory legal documentation (license verification, liability insurance, qualifications of preceptors and preceptor orientation etc.).
• Securing and coordinating clinical placement for all assigned programs for incoming and continuing students.
• Meet all clinical and other scheduled responsibilities such as office hours and meetings at the designated time.
• Creates and manages assigned databases to ensure complete and accurate information. Compiles reports and communicates data to appropriate stakeholders. Databases may include:
• Tracking of clinical placements
• Contracts/Agreements
• Documentation
• Legal verification (for students, preceptors, and clinical sites)
• The successful candidate must be a team player with the ability to problem-solve, share creative solutions, and implement best practices. S/He will possess critical thinking skills and the ability to balance multiple tasks simultaneously, accurately setting priorities that make sense for the Center. The role requires excellent organizational skills and the ability to work in a fast-paced environment. The Clinical and Simulation Coordinator will have superb interpersonal and communication skills, the ability to deal with all levels of faculty, staff and students, and exemplary customer service skills.
• This position will require moderate lifting and carrying of simulation equipment up to 25lbs. Proficiency in Microsoft applications including Word, Excel and Power Point, is also required.
• Flexibility and adaptability to work varying schedules and hours including evenings is necessary.
• Demonstrate sensitivity to and understanding of college students that come from diverse academic, socioeconomic, ethnic and racial backgrounds.

Qualifications:

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Associate of Science in Nursing
  • Minimum of two (two) years of nursing practice

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Three (3) to five (5) years of instructional experience
  • Bachelor or Science in Nursing
