Job Description
Scope of Position

Nursing informatics is the combination of information science, computer science, and clinical science designed to assist in the management and processing of data, information and knowledge to support the practice and delivery of clinical care. It is a multidisciplinary scientific endeavor of analyzing, formalizing and modeling how nurses collect and manage data, process data into information and knowledge, make knowledge-based decisions and inferences for patient care, and use this empirical and experiential knowledge in order to broaden the scope and enhance the quality of their professional practice. The scientific methods central to nursing informatics are focused on: 1. Using a discourse about motives for computerized systems. 2. Analyzing, formalizing and modeling nursing information processing and nursing knowledge for all components of nursing practice: clinical practice, management, education and research. 3. Investigating determinants, conditions, elements, models and processes in order to design, and implement as well as test the effectiveness and efficiency of computerized information, (tele) communication and network systems for nursing practice. 4. Studying the effects of these systems on nursing practice.

Position Summary

Assists in the planning and standardization of nursing data and content related to the clinical transformation process. Participates in the analysis, documentation and redesign of nursing workflows, methodologies and practices to enhance patient care and further the overall nursing practice within the organization. Participates in all nursing informatics activities in support of interdisciplinary clinical practice, nursing decision making, education, quality, and research initiatives and standards. Conducts and coordinates clinical measurement initiatives to assure accurate reporting and analysis of quality and utilization indicators.


Minimum Qualifications
Bachelor's degree, preferably in nursing, and 6 years of experience in nursing and/or 2 years of experience in nursing informatics along with evidence of progressive leadership preferred. Previous experience with health care information systems and PC based software applications (spreadsheets, data base management, word processing, etc.) is preferred. Certification in Informatics is preferred.
