Scope of Position
Nursing informatics is the combination of information science, computer science, and clinical science designed to assist in the management and processing of data, information and knowledge to support the practice and delivery of clinical care. It is a multidisciplinary scientific endeavor of analyzing, formalizing and modeling how nurses collect and manage data, process data into information and knowledge, make knowledge-based decisions and inferences for patient care, and use this empirical and experiential knowledge in order to broaden the scope and enhance the quality of their professional practice.
Position Summary
Contributes strategic vision and serves as the top-level technical contributor during the planning and standardization of nursing data and content related to the clinical transformation process. Leads the analysis, documentation and redesign of nursing workflows, methodologies and practices to enhance patient care and further the overall nursing practice within the organization. Leads all nursing informatics activities in support of interdisciplinary clinical practice, nursing decision making, education, quality, and research initiatives and standards. Responsible for clinical measurement initiatives to assure accurate reporting and analysis of quality and utilization indicators. Leads the current state mapping and future state workflow development. Leads in the maximization of clinical information applications and methodologies to achieve the best clinical outcomes and works with nurses and clinicians to optimize use of patient flow, forecasting and acuity tools. Leads the data collection, statistical analysis, and documentation preparation for nursing operations throughout the organization. Leads the examination of current nursing processes and practices; identifies areas that require improvements and recommends priorities based on HIPAA and governmental guidelines. Consults on major initiatives and projects, including multiple departments, service lines, platforms, and various administrative interfaces regarding the integration of nursing informatics solutions and strategies with overall healthcare solutions. Acts as a subject matter expert on nursing informatics strategies, procedures, policies, and methodologies. Provides direction and insight to leaders, peers and team members regarding the identification and alignment of strategic nursing informatics requirements with evolving business/healthcare opportunities. Recognized across the organization for nursing expertise and sought as a source for resolution of unique or the most complex nursing informatics problems.
Minimum Qualifications
Bachelor's degree or equivalent experience and 4 years of experience in nursing and/or 4 years of experience in nursing informatics along with evidence of progressive leadership preferred. Previous experience with health care information systems and PC based software applications (spreadsheets, data base management, word processing, etc.) is preferred. Certification in Informatics is preferred.
