Job Description Summary

The College of Health Professions offers a Bachelor of Science in Nursing. This position provides opportunity to teach theory, lab, and clinical and to be actively engaged in ongoing program development in collaboration with the Undergraduate Chair-Nursing. We are currently seeking an innovative, collaborative, teacher-scholar to join the University as a full-time faculty. This position reports to the Undergraduate Chair-Nursing. In addition to teaching, emphasis is on program planning, curriculum development and evaluation, clinical agency liaison/relationship building, advising, and marketing. Workload is 30 credit hours per year for faculty teaching lab/clinical only or a combination of theory/lab/clinical. Workload is based on student contact hours with one credit of lab or clinical equating to three hours of class. Faculty must comply with Board of Nursing requirements pertaining to course hours and individual qualifications, and experience as well as policies in the Faculty Handbook.
This is a nine-month position based at the Saint Leo University campus in Saint Leo, Florida. Appointment may be made at the instructor, assistant, or associate professor level, tenure track.


Job Description


DUTIES AND TASKS:

  • Teach nursing courses in theory, lab, and clinical settings
  • Support curriculum and program development, evaluation, and revision
  • Teach traditional and non-traditional age students
  • Teach on-ground, online, and hybrid modalities
  • Maintain currency in nursing practice through research, certifications, and/or professional development
  • Advise students
  • Support program recruiting and retention efforts
  • Support Departmental and College of Health Professions initiatives
  • Serve on program and university committees
  • Establish relationships with clinical and community agencies and facilitate clinical placements
  • Participate in scholarship and service activities
  • Perform other duties as assigned by the Department Chairperson and/or Dean

REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES:

Knowledge:

  • A Doctorate in nursing or a closely related field and a Master of Science in Nursing from a regionally accredited institution is preferred; a minimum of a Master of Science in Nursing is required
  • An unencumbered, current Registered Nurse license and ability to obtain licensure in Florida is required
  • Experience and credentials to teach nursing courses per accreditation guidelines
  • Experience in nursing education, curriculum development, and accreditation preferred
  • A minimum of three or more years of nursing practice experience with expertise in long term care, acute care, critical care, community settings, pediatrics, and/or mental health.

Skills:

  • Demonstrated success with active learning strategies
  • Experience with application of technology in teaching, including use of a learning management system
  • Utilization of discipline-related technology, including nursing simulation software and equipment desired
  • Demonstrated effectiveness in working collaboratively

Abilities:

  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Effective interactions with a diverse student and colleague community
  • Willingness to take initiative and thrive in a dynamic environment

  • Teaching Philosophy - (500 words or less), should highlight how your teaching philosophy and practices fit the Mission and Values of Saint Leo University.
  • Three (3) Letters of Recommendation – All letters of recommendation should be professional references and at least one (1) from a recent superior. If you do not have those documents at the time of application, please upload a text or word document stating, "Recommendations will be sent independently." Recommendation letters can be mailed to Academic Affairs at the address stated below
  • Student Evaluations (six classes minimum) – Student evaluations from the last year (at least six classes, an even mix of graduate and undergraduate).


TRANSCRIPTS

Official transcripts are required for all adjuncts and all final full-time faculty candidates

Official transcripts for Master, Graduate, and Doctorate degrees are required to complete your application packet and are to be issued directly to Saint Leo University from the respective education institution.*


Transcripts that are “Issued to Student” or issued to another institution are not accepted. Digital and/or electronic transcripts cannot be accepted at this time.

World Education Services (WES) Evaluation – A certified evaluation and translation from World Education Services (WES) is required for foreign transcripts and/or any and all degrees obtained from international universities. Expenses for official transcripts are the responsibility of the applicant.
