The University of Miami/UHealth has an exciting opportunity for a Nurse Specialist. The Nurse Specialist collaborates with the multidisciplinary team to foster an environment that actively contributes to the successful accomplishment of the organization’s mission and goals. The Nurse Specialist acts as a change agent, mentor, and leader, providing direction to nursing staff in the delivery of patient care programs and ensuring that they maintain an established level of competency. Additionally, the Nurse Specialist collaborates with other experts to outline the best treatment for patients and implements improvements in patient care, healthcare policies, and resources. The Nurse Specialist exercises judgment in providing effective assistance in the delivery of healthcare.

Core Job Functions:

Collaborates with nursing leadership in ensuring staff adheres to the organization’s internal policies/standards. Assists in Joint commission preparedness. Develops tools and participates in performance improvement activities. Maintains ongoing professional development by affiliating with professional and technical organizations and participating in applicable continuing education programs, conferences, seminars, and workshops. Provides interpretation of knowledge and direction to staff. Identifies gaps in practice that are address through the review of standards, current evidence, review of policy for consistency of content with practice, and communicate training needs to the professional development team for staff training as well as follow-up. Promotes culture of Nursing Excellence. Incorporates the 10 Caritas Processes® in the support, integration, and promotion of Caring Science into nursing practice. Serves as leader, consultant, mentor, and change agent to advance nursing practice among all settings across the organization. Provides mentorship to other healthcare professionals, functioning as a preceptor or coordinating preceptors for visiting professionals, students, new graduates, and orientees. Collaborates with other interprofessional team members in finding specific evidence-based practice interventions and guidelines that will assist in improving patient care outcomes. Works together with the multidisciplinary team member to facilitate collaboration with other disciplines to improve outcomes across the continuum of patient care. Pursues scientific knowledge and skills to expand the practice of nursing as well as maintain expert clinical competencies. Provides the latest cost-effective nursing practices. Assists in maintaining the integration of research and evidence-based practice. Promotes the dissemination of best practices internally and within the external healthcare community. Assists in providing education on the specialty. Models the mission, vision, and values of the UMHC Department of Nursing. Adheres to University and unit-level policies and procedures and safeguards University assets.

Qualifications:

  • Education: Bachelor's degree in Nursing or related field

  • Licensures/Certifications: Valid Florida RN License

  • BLS from the American Heart Association required

Experience:

  • Minimum of 3 years' relevant experience

  • Experience in coordinating patient care programs and working with interdisciplinary teams

  • AHA Basic Life Support for Healthcare workers certification required

  • Specialty certification required or obtained within one year of employment

  • Knowledge of medical procedures, diagnostic tests, and pharmacology

  • Strong leadership and mentoring skills

  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills

  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and healthcare-related software programs
