Job Duties:


The Department of Pediatrics seeks a Nurse Specialist to provide direct patient care and case management for the Pediatric Adolescent clinics and assist in the outpatient management of general pediatric and adult patients. This position will serve as an extension of the physicians, but report to the Nurse Administrator of Clinical Operations. The selected candidate will prioritize clinical situations, ensure orders are written and carried out in an expeditious manner, and facilitate communication between the specialty and ancillary departments and staff. In addition, the selected candidate will make appropriate referrals as needed, maintain accurate patient records, and follow agency research guidelines for documentation of patients on studies and protocols. Independent nursing care will be expected, including administering immunizations, IV therapy, nursing support, technical assistance, assisting physicians with clinic procedures, and the activities of maintaining a safe environment, care standards, and inventory control. The selected candidate will interact with residents, medical students, nursing students, and other learners on a daily basis to teach procedures and concepts that relate to nursing practice. In addition, the selected candidate will serve as an educator for the patient population and other family members regarding preventative health measures, disease, and disease management. The selected candidate will also help cover the Adult and Pediatric Healthcare Clinic as needed.
Currently, hours of clinic operation are from 8:00am to 5:00pm, with a flexible scheduled late day to accommodate patient care, Monday through Friday.

The Brody School of Medicine at East Carolina University is affiliated with ECU Health Medical Center, which serves as it's teaching hospital, as well as the flagship hospital for ECU Health.

Minimum Education/Experience:


Graduation from state-accredited school of registered nursing and two years of nursing experience, with at least one year in the assigned specialty area. Must have a current license to practice as a Registered Nurse in North Carolina by the North Carolina Board of Nursing. All degrees must be received from appropriately accredited institutions.
