This role serves in a family nurse practitioner practice position in the School of Nursing to provide direct care in a walk-in/urgent care clinic in Navasota, Texas. The employee will provide primary care working collaboratively with an inter-professional healthcare team.

Qualifications

Required Education:

Master of Science degree in nursing or higher with national board certification as a family nurse practitioner or equivalent combination of education and experience.

Required Experience:

One year directly related experience serving as a family nurse practitioner

Preferred Education:

Master of Science in Nursing or Doctor of Nursing Practice preferred.

Preferred Experience:

At least five years of clinical nursing experience is required. American Heart Association - Basic Life Support Certificate. Experience with computer systems required, including web based applications and electronic health records, some Microsoft Office applications which may include Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint or Access. Experience in health professions education is preferred.

Required Licenses and Certifications:

Requires an active license as a Registered Nurse and as an Advance Practice Registered Nurse, Family Nurse Practitioner, in the state of Texas with prescriptive authority and national board certification as a family nurse practitioner.

Job Responsibilities

FNP Practice and Clinical Preceptor

  • Performs history, psychosocial, and physical examinations, diagnosis of acute, chronic, and urgent/episodic primary care conditions, formulates therapeutic plans of care, ordering and interpreting laboratory and diagnostic imaging, electrocardiographic exams, medication management and provides education to patients and their families.
  • Coordinates the care of patients to provide safe, effective, efficient, and timely patient-centered care. Liaises between clinical staff and consult services. Consults with physicians and other members of the healthcare team regarding the care of patients as appropriate.
  • Order therapeutic modalities such as medications, treatments, IV fluids and electrolytes, etc.
  • Performs procedures as indicated including but not limited to: incision and drainage of superficial abscesses; debridement, suturing and general care for wounds and burns; cast and splint application, removal and management; epistaxis management; foreign body removal; nail matrix removal; cryosurgery of warts; skin lesion biopsy; local anesthesia including digital blocks; venipuncture; etc.
  • Provide primary health care maintenance of the population served, including immunizations.
  • Counsel and instruct patients and significant others as appropriate on medications, disease, procedures, and preventive healthcare.
  • Assess, stabilize, and determine disposition of patients with emergent conditions consistent with medical staff policy regarding emergency and consultative call services
  • Serves as a clinical resource for staff through consultation formal and informal education, review of literature and participation in seminars, conferences, and simulation.
  • Document clinical encounters clearly, precisely, and in a timely manner.
  • Applies, models, and teaches evidence-based treatment and care in clinical setting.
  • Precepts advance practice and pre-licensure nursing students each semester
  • Promotes costs savings and optimal patient experience in primary care
  • Participates in rapid cycle continuous process improvement
  • Participates in data reporting
  • Participates in scholarly projects as appropriate

Other Duties

  • Preforms other duties as assigned.

This position is funded from grant startup funding and/or clinic revenue funding which is renewed under the provisions of the grantor. The current grant and/or startup funding is through 8/31/2025.  This position, therefore, is contingent upon continuation of funding of these grants and/or clinic revenue and satisfactory job performance.
