The College of Medicine, Department of Internal Medicine, Division of Digestive Diseases is recruiting for a full-time (100% FTE) Nurse Practitioner/Physician Assistant. This position will support the University’s mission and commitment to excellence and diversity in our students, faculty, staff and all our activities.
 
Estimated clinical efforts will include eight 4-hour outpatient clinics each week. The clinics sessions will be at the West Chester location. You will assist the division with the influx of new patients and determine if additional patient care or procedures needed from subspecialist (luminal, liver, or pancreas).  Individual will be expected to participate in teaching activities for our students, residents and fellows.

 


Essential Functions

Nurse Practitioner:                                                                                         

  • Perform appropriate history and physical for complex, acute, critical, and chronically ill patients. 
  • Order and interpret diagnostic and therapeutic tests. 
  • Prescribe appropriate pharmacologic and non-pharmacologic treatment modalities.
  • Monitor the effectiveness of interventions. 
  • Maintain accurate medical records.  
  • Collaborate with other providers and members of the health care team in delivery of care and make appropriate referrals when needed. 
  • Educate patients and families about medical conditions and treatment plans. 
  • Facilitate staff, patient, and family decision making using evidence-based practice 
  • Participate in research and development projects. 
  • Participate in education of nurse practitioners, nurse practitioner students and medical students.

Physician Assistant:

  • Perform history and physical examinations in the inpatient and outpatient setting; write progress notes and narrative discharge summaries
  • Order laboratory studies and diagnostic procedures; explain the necessity, preparation, nature and anticipated effects of scheduled diagnostic and therapeutic procedures to the patient
  • Prescribe necessary treatment and services for quality patient care.
  • Prescribe appropriate pharmacologic and non-pharmacologic treatment modalities.
  • Maintain accurate medical records.
  • Provide therapeutic procedures such as cast application and removal, wound suturing and dressing changes; monitor progress of patients, and report progress to supervising physician
  • Participate in basic science and clinical research projects conducted by supervising physician; prepare statistical reports and analyses setting forth progress, adverse trends, and appropriate recommendations or conclusions.
  • Participate in teaching medical students and physician assistant students in techniques and procedures which are unique to specific clinical setting.

Minimum Requirements

Nurse Practitioner: 

  • Current/valid RN license to practice in the State of Ohio. 
  • A Master's degree in nursing and graduation from an ANA approved Nurse Practitioner Program 
  • At least three (3) years of nursing experience 
     

Physician Assistant: 

  • Professional Degree
  • Graduation from a Physician Assistant program accredited by the Accreditation Review Commission on Education for the Physician Assistant (ARC-PA) or its predecessor agencies
  • Certification as a Physician Assistant by the National Commission on Certification of Physician Assistants. 
  • Current/valid PA license to practice in the State of Ohio. 
  • A minimum of one year experience is ideal.
