Job Summary

The Nurse Practitioner serves as a high level professional whose activities will span the interface between the physicians and nurses who manage the Newborn Nursery and Pedi-Med services at Benioff Childrens Hospital, San Francisco. The NP is an independent member of the team, with responsibility for the safe delivery of care for inpatient newborns.

Required Qualifications

 NP 1

  • Master’s Degree in Nursing from a Nurse Practitioner program
  • Minimum one  year recent working experience as a Registered Nurse or Nurse Practitioner working with newborns or infants in an inpatient or outpatient setting

NP 2

  • Master’s Degree in Nursing from a Nurse Practitioner program
  • Minimum one year recent working experience as a Nurse Practitioner working with newborns or infants in an inpatient or outpatient setting

Preferred Qualifications

  • More than two (2) years NP work experience in a Newborn Nursery or Newborn ICU
  • Lactation certification or lactation education experience

License/Certification

  • California driver’s license (CDL) if required for position.
  • Must hold current national certification from an accepted certifying agency and provide by first day of work. 
  • Must hold a current and active RN and NP and Furnishing license in California.
  • Must have completed a BRN recognized graduate master’s degree program as a nurse practitioner.
  • Must obtain an active and/or transferable DEA license to California and provide evidence by 90th day of clinical practice. (It is the responsibility of the employee to transfer their DEA license to their new place of employment if from out of state, via online DEA portal and provide evidence of transfer).
  • Must have submitted enrollment with CMS Medicare and Medicaid through credentialing by first clinical day.  CCS enrollment as appropriate for pediatric environments.
  • Must hold current AHA BLS as minimum requirement
  • Current AHA NRP
  • State regulation requires that you have a supervising physician to practice 
  • Incumbents with less than 6 months of NP experience will be hired as a Nurse Practitioner 1

UCSF Medical Center and Campus requires certain healthcare providers to be credentialed. In most cases this is done through its Office of Medical Affairs & Governance (OMAG) prior to the first working day. Credentialing and approval of the Standardized Procedures takes between 60-90 days but can vary.
