Job Summary

The CCNP – Medical ICU (MICU) will primarily be based in the Medical ICU.  However, may rotate through all of the focused care ICUs at the medical center if needed, including: cardiothoracic, neurologic, neurosurgical, medical, general surgical, and transplant.  The CCNP shall work collaboratively with physician students, residents, fellows, and attending physicians. The CCNP will participate in the precepting of Advanced Practice Provider (APP) students and post graduate fellows. This position is scheduled for 12 hour rotating shifts from days to nights including holidays and weekends.

Department Description

The CCNP – Medical ICU (MICU) will primarily be based in the Medical ICU.  However, may rotate through all of the focused care ICUs at the medical center if needed, including: cardiothoracic, neurologic, neurosurgical, medical, general surgical, and transplant.

The UCSF Intensive Care Unit at Parnassus provides advanced care for critically ill or injured patients with complex conditions. These include acute kidney injury, end-stage and acute liver failure, severe sepsis and multiple organ dysfunction syndrome, among other conditions. We also provide postoperative care for general surgery, solid organ transplant and orthopedic surgery patients.


Required Qualifications

Nurse Practitioner 1

  • Minimum two (2) years recent RN experience in Adult Critical Care.
  • Demonstrated excellence in the following areas:  clinical practice, communication, clinical case management, leadership/problem identification/resolution, and teaching.

Nurse Practitioner 2

  • Minimum two (2) years Nurse Practitioner experience in Adult Critical Care or completion of a accredited critical care practice transition program.
  • Demonstrated excellence in the following areas:  clinical practice, communication, clinical case management, leadership/problem identification/resolution, and teaching.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Completion of an accredited critical care practice transition program
  • Minimum two (2) years of recent experience as an inpatient Adult Nurse Practitioner in an academic medical center.
  • Experience with quality improvement and/ or research.
  • Author of publication in peer reviewed journal.
  • Experience as faculty or instructor in graduate nursing program

License/Certification

  • California driver’s license (CDL) if required for position.
  • Current national certification from an accepted certifying agency and provide by first day of work.
  • Hold a current and active RN and NP and Furnishing license in California.
  • Complete a BRN recognized graduate master’s degree program as a nurse practitioner.
  • Obtain an active and/or transferable DEA license to California and provide evidence by 90th day of clinical practice. (It is the responsibility of the employee to transfer their DEA license to their new place of employment if from out of state, via online DEA portal and provide evidence of transfer).
  • Submit enrollment with CMS Medicare and Medicaid through credentialing by first clinical day.  CCS enrollment as appropriate for pediatric environments.
  • Hold current AHA BLS as minimum requirement.
  • Current AHA ACLS.
  • State regulation requires that you have a supervising physician to practice.
  • Incumbents with less than 6 months of NP experience will be hired as a Nurse Practitioner 1.
  • Must maintain Emergency Neurological Life Support (ENLS) certification.

UCSF Medical Center and Campus requires certain healthcare providers to be credentialed. In most cases this is done through its Office of Medical Affairs & Governance (OMAG) prior to the first working day. Credentialing and approval of the Standardized Procedures takes between 60-90 days but can vary.
