The above hiring range represents the University's good faith and reasonable estimate of the range of possible compensation at the time of posting.
 

Position Summary

The Department of Psychiatry is seeking a Nurse Practitioner to join our team in a full-time position to work within the division of Adult Psychiatry in the Comprehensive Psychiatric Emergency Program. This position will support the department by providing clinical care within the New York Presbyterian Hospital at the Columbia University Irving Medical Center. 

The CPEP is staffed with Psychiatric Attendings, Residents, Registered nurses, students, licensed social workers, a recreation therapist, and admission personnel; a vibrant team where professional peer support and supervision is also a priority. A typical work week would include three 12-hour daytime shifts.


Responsibilities

We offer care for our patients in over 25 specialty areas as well as individualized care for complex cases. Our Residency, Fellowship and Graduate programs are among the best in the Nation. Our Clinical, Translational and Basic Science research features collaborations across specialties and stretches from the bench to bedside. We also have several active Clinical trials available to our patients.

  • Provide diagnostic psychiatric evaluations for patients in the adult emergency department.
    o Entails providing full psychiatric assessment, stabilization, extended observation, and treatment.
    o Orders, interprets, and records results of clinical tests and reports results to physicians.
    o Assess for risk factors and contraindications to treatment.
    o Provide psychopharmacologic and short-term psychotherapeutic treatments for a wide range of psychiatric diagnoses. 
  • Works collaboratively in an interdisciplinary team with strong interpersonal and communication skills is essential.
  • Setting requires exceptional flexibility, consultative skills, and active collaboration with other providers and team members.
  • Documents essential elements of patient care in accordance with regulatory and institutional standards.
  • Performs general administrative functions, and related duties and responsibilities as assigned/requested.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Master's degree or equivalent in education and experience; plus, a minimum of two (2) years' experience in an outpatient setting, or inpatient setting, or emergency department setting.
  • Current New York State Nurse Practitioner and Registered Nurse license.
  • National Board Certification as a Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner (PMHNP).
  • DEA certificate and BLS certification.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Previous Nurse Practitioner experience and recent experience in Psychiatry.
  • Experience in Emergency Program.
  • Doctorate in Nursing Practice.

Other Requirements

  • Must successfully complete all online systems training requirements.
  • Psychiatry Nurse Practitioner Licenses required.
