Job Summary

Student Wellness Services provides primary care and health education to graduate and undergraduate students who are scientifically-minded, culturally diverse, and engaged in a rigorous academic environment. Our tight-knit campus allows for flexibility and strong relationships within Student Affairs to support the unique needs of each student.

Under the general direction of the Assistant Vice President for Student Affairs and Wellness, and reporting to the Medical Director, the incumbent will support the mission of the Institute by delivering high-quality healthcare services and promoting health and wellness education.


Job Duties
  • Provides evidence-based, quality healthcare for students with acute, episodic illnesses/injuries
  • Participates in disease management by collaborating with appropriate specialists for students with chronic illnesses
  • Incorporates preventive/basic health education guidance during each clinical encounter
  • Engages in timely and appropriate consultation with the supervising physician/medical director
  • Makes timely and appropriate referrals to community providers
  • Appropriately uses clinical techniques and diagnostic tools; orders and collects specimens for routine laboratory tests, screening procedures and therapeutic procedures, including blood and blood products
  • Administers, orders, furnishes and/or prescribes medications
  • Effectively communicates and interacts with a diverse group of patients, families, staff and members of the community
  • Handles spontaneous work demands while undertaking projects that require advance planning
  • Contributes to campus-wide health education/promotion programs
  • Stays abreast of developments in best practices for university-based healthcare
  • Adheres to all Institute, Student Health Services policies and Nurse Practitioner/Physician Assistant protocols and requirements set forth by the relevant licensing board
  • Assists in medically-related response to individuals and/or groups during campus-wide crises and natural disasters
  • Contributes to Health and Counseling social/electronic media/website presence
  • Some after-hours outreach and clinical interventions required
  • Additional duties as assigned

Basic Qualifications
  • Master’s degree in nursing, university-based Nurse Practitioner program/Physician Assistant program or equivalent training and experience as outlined by the California Board of Registered Nursing (BRN) or Physician Assistant Board (PAB)
  • Nurse Practitioner: Current California license as a Registered Nurse, BRN certificate, and BLS certification; Valid BRN furnishing certificate and valid, unrestricted DEA number/certificate
  • Physician Assistant: Current California license as a Physician Assistant and BLS certification; unrestricted DEA number/certificate

Preferred Qualifications
  • 3+ years’ experience working in college/university healthcare environment
  • National Board certification with ANCC, ACNP, or NCCPA
  • Demonstrated proficiency in oral and written communication skills, public speaking, and leading group discussions
