Job Summary

The Nurse Manager, Surgical Robotics, will have direct accountability for implementing and managing all aspects of the Robotics program, including development and implementation of clinical and programmatic policies and procedures, and capital budgets in collaboration with and under the direction of the Director of Perioperative Services and the Medical Director of Surgical Robotics.  Applies management and clinical expertise, education, research and consultation to optimize operational outcomes.   Assumes accountability for implementation of quality process initiatives and metrics tracking.

Maintains expert clinical knowledge of Robotics technology and treatment applications.  Coordinates the schedule for Robotics in tandem with physicians and related department staff for maximum use and efficiency.   Participates in robotic surgical procedures to provide additional support and clinical resources to nursing as well as physician staff.  Coordinates all robotics training.  

Ensures availability of related supplies for robotics procedures and creates systems to prevent loss or damage.  Works with SPD to ensure training for staff related to robotic instrumentation care and cleaning.   Oversees equipment maintenance needs and replaces items as needed.  Serves as a liaison with vendors to ensure optimum performance of robotics equipment and supplies.   Reviews appropriate monthly financial statements and makes modifications to reduce costs associated with supplies. 

Participates in strategic meetings, annual conferences and meetings related to surgical robotics representing UCSF Health enterprise and interests.

Department Description

UCSF Health Perioperative services includes all operating rooms sites at Moffitt Long, Mt. Zion, Mission Bay Adult & Pediatrics, Oakland Children’s Hospital, outpatient surgery centers and affiliate locations.


Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor's Degree or Master's Degree in Nursing required
  • Strong hospital management experience (minimum seven years in a lead/supervisory/management role), with progressive and in-depth expertise in patient care services
  • Knowledge of hospital / clinic operations in a hospital or medical center setting; knowledge of appropriate professional standards for the department and team
  • 1-2 years experience in supporting robotic surgeries in the perioperative environment
  • Registered Nurse in the State of California
  • Strong knowledge of relevant regulatory requirements, as well as related legislative, accreditation, licensing and compliance environments
  • Strong knowledge of relevant healthcare information technology and patient care workflows and processes
  • Excellent communications and interpersonal skills to foster and promote an environment for effective communication and collaborative decision making across multiple units and disciplines
  • Excellent leadership, fiscal and operations management skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively with physicians, management and staff from all disciplines
  • Ability to create and maintain a goal-oriented climate of teamwork, collaboration and consistent achievement of objectives
  • Ability to travel to various sites within the UCSF Health enterprise to include all affiliates
  • Ability to travel to attend annual conferences and meetings at the UC System level

Preferred Qualifications

  • Master's Degree in Nursing or relevant area preferred
  • Certification in relevant area preferred
  • Registered Nurse First Assist (RFNA)      
  • Advanced Practice Registered Nurse (APRN)
  • LEAN Management Training

License/Certification

  • Registered Nurse in the State of California
