Position Summary
The Temporary Clinical Research Nurse Coordinator will provide direct, individualized care to adult participants who are participating in research protocols (phlebotomy and IV insertion, preparing and administering investigational medications, monitoring and observation, performing ECG’s, collecting and processing specimens, performing other data collection. In addition the nurse will provide direction and health teaching where applicable in relation to study protocol activities, reporting and recording care rendered, and reporting the participant’s response to that care, etc.).
Care requirements will be determined by the scope of study participation, the clinical condition of the participant, and the requirements and clinical effects of research procedures.
Engaging professionally with study teams and Principal Investigator hospital staff to ensure efficient conduct of clinical research projects. Duties will focus on conduct of study visits and collection of data per study protocol, performance of study procedures, completion of case report forms and data entry, and maintaining study logs and records. The majority of the work will be specific nursing activities.
Minimum Education and Experience Requirements

Licensed to practice as a Registered Nurse in the State of North Carolina and two years of experience in the area of specialization.

Required Qualifications, Competencies, and Experience
- Excellent interpersonal skills, as well as strong written and verbal communication skills.
- Ability to interact with a variety of people in a professional, effective, diplomatic manner, with excellent communication skills and a focus on customer service.
- Ability to work independently, as well as function as part of a team.
- Working knowledge of Microsoft Outlook, Excel, and Word.
- Must possess a working knowledge of professional nursing care practices and principles.
- Graduation from a state-accredited school of professional nursing and current licensure as a registered nurse in the state of North Carolina by the North Carolina Board of Nursing with no restrictions or pending actions.
- Current Healthcare Provider Basic Life Support (BLS) certification (or able to obtain within 4 weeks of hire
Preferred Qualifications, Competencies, and Experience
- Bachelor’s degree in Nursing with a minimum of 6 months of direct clinical nursing experience.
-Possess a variety of healthcare experience with an emphasis on medical nursing. Experience with In-patient nursing care preferred.
-Experience working at UNC Hospitals in the In-patient clinical setting.
Observational Unit experience at UNC Hospitals strongly preferred.
-Experience with Epic (UNC Health’s electronic medical record).
-Proficiency in intravenous access and/or phlebotomy preferred, with recent experience (in the past 18 months)
