Founded in 2006, the Department adopted the name Department of Radiation Medicine & Applied Sciences (RMAS) in 2012 to reflect its bipartite missions of Clinical Medicine and Academic Research. Over the years, RMAS has realized unprecedented growth in its faculty as well as in its clinical, research, and education programs. Today, RMAS is a major academic Department within the UC San Diego School of Medicine. We are a multidisciplinary team of radiation oncologists, medical physicists, radiation therapists, nurses, dosimetrists, and researchers dedicated to advancing patient care and pushing the frontier of clinical medicine.

The Nurse Practitioner (NP) will assess and provide actions as appropriate for patient care populations based on competence, professional expertise, and knowledge. The NP is expected to practice consistent with ANA Standards of Practice and Professional Performance. The NP is responsible for providing comprehensive health assessment of patients receiving radiation oncology services. The NP will conduct in-depth medical histories, perform initial and periodic physical examinations, review imaging, assess and manage care of the patients, conduct appropriate follow up in collaboration with the attending physician. The NP will be involved in collaborative multidisciplinary care. Assignments at this level primarily encompass management of patients who present chronic and/or episodic health problems. Assignments at this level may include responsibility for occasional community teaching programs participation in program planning and development of patient education information.

Depending on experience of the selected candidate, this position will be hired at the NPI or NPII level.


  • Must be a graduate from an accredited nurse practitioner program.

  • California Registered Nurse (RN) license, California Nurse Practitioner (NP) license, and Furnishing License Certification.

  • National NP board certification in aligned specialty with the practice area.

  • Current ART certification, or BLS/CPR and ACLS certifications at time of hire with commitment to get ART within six (6) months of hire date.

  • Must have Radiation Oncology experience as an RN or NP.

  • Proven ability to perform initial history, and physical examination, identify major medical problems, and formulate appropriate plans of action.

  • Demonstrated knowledge of common diagnostic tests, exams, and procedures used in a clinic setting.

  • Must understand purpose, required supplies and/or equipment, how to perform procedure accurately, infection control, an accurate documentation of medical chart.

  • Strong ability to manage own patient load.

  • Relevant oncology certification.
  • Must be able to work various hours and locations based on business needs.
  • Must be able to obtain UCSD Medical Staff privileges and maintain during employment. Due to advanced practice credentialing eligibility, clinical advanced practice experience must be within the last two years.
  • Employment is subject to a criminal background check and pre-employment physical.
  • Current UCSD NPIII employees may be hired at the NPIII level pending review and approval by Health Human Resources and the UCSD Advanced Practice Council.

Pay Transparency Act

Annual Full Pay Range: $158,187 - $221,370 (will be prorated if the appointment percentage is less than 100%)

Hourly Equivalent: $75.76 - $106.02

Factors in determining the appropriate compensation for a role include experience, skills, knowledge, abilities, education, licensure and certifications, and other business and organizational needs. The Hiring Pay Scale referenced in the job posting is the budgeted salary or hourly range that the University reasonably expects to pay for this position. The Annual Full Pay Range may be broader than what the University anticipates to pay for this position, based on internal equity, budget, and collective bargaining agreements (when applicable).
