The College of Public Service Department of Criminal Justice and Social Work is looking for two student research assistants to work with the Houston Endowment funded Civic Engagement initiative. Student research assistants will work closely with Dr. Fei Yang, Dr. Liza Lane, and Dr. Diane Miller to conduct criminal justice and civic engagement research. The position is ideal for those wishing to gain firsthand research experience in criminology, criminal justice, social justice and social change, and civic engagement.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities 

  • Required to complete all UHD online training pertaining to employment/scholarship.
  • Required to complete all HCJPD background checks.
  • Must commit to working 15-20 hours per week during both the Spring 2024 and Fall 2024 semesters.
  • Must be willing to interact with justice-involved youth and criminal justice professionals.

Qualifications

  • Must be a Criminal Justice major with junior or senior standing with a GPA higher than 3.5.
  • Must have demonstrated strong interest in criminal justice and civic engagement research.
  • Must have demonstrated good academic writing skills.
  • Must have demonstrated good interpersonal communication skills.
