NIDC Technical Manager - Accelerator Products

The Oak Ridge National Laboratory seeks to hire a Technical Manager. The position is in the National Isotope Development Center (NIDC), reporting to the NIDC Director. The NIDC serves as the business interface for the U.S. Department of Energy Isotope Program (DOE IP), regularly communicating with the isotope user community and coordinating isotope production across numerous program facilities (including ORNL).
 

Description of Job:

The Technical Manager works directly with the NIDC staff and DOE IP program management to provide technical support on isotope production and distribution across multiple DOE production sites.  The Technical Manager provides support on development of new isotope production activities and the associated distribution supply chains. Responsibilities include managing the accelerator isotope product line, coordinating production across the DOE IP accelerator production sites to effectively meet market demand, and regularly interfacing with customers who purchase these isotopes.

 

Major Duties/Responsibilities: 

  • Provide technical support to NIDC staff in the areas of isotope production, processing, and distribution.
  • Assist NIDC staff with addressing new production requests from customers and coordinate activities to determine feasibility and implementation requirements.
  • As the NIDC Product Line Manager for Accelerator Products:
    • Coordinate accelerator isotope production with DOE production site managers (Brookhaven National Laboratory, Los Alamos National Laboratory, Argonne National Laboratory, and numerous university partners that operate cyclotrons, etc.)
    • Make recommendations to DOE IP for entering/exiting markets
    • Identify opportunities for new isotopes .
    • Manage contract development for customer supply agreements
    • Work with NIDC communications specialist on upcoming product availability announcements
    • Help identify new customers for accelerator products and develop strategies for increasing the customer base.
    • Work with the DOE production sites to establishment and refine isotope product specifications.
  • Transition new product orders to Product Distribution Specialists after successful market introduction.
  • Coordinate key stakeholder engagements, including bi-annual DOE IP stakeholder meetings attended by NIDC and DOE IP staff.
  • Attend advanced hazardous material transportation training and become proficient in classification of radioactive and hazardous materials for transportation.
  • Provide technical review and input for  the NIDC monthly reports.

 

Basic Qualifications:

  • A Bachelor’s degree in science or engineering with 5 to 7 years of relevant experience.
  • The ability to obtain and maintain a DOE “Q” security clearance, which requires US Citizenship or Legal Permanent Resident (LPR) status.
  • Exceptional teamwork, statistical, and problem solving skills, with attention to detail and precision required.
  • Extremely self-motivated, creative, and passionate with excellent written and oral communication skills and the ability to multi-task.
  • Experience with integrating various requirements into a cohesive, effective, and efficient approach.

 

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Knowledge of and experience in the field of radioisotope production and processing at accelerator facilities.
  • Proficiency in business fundamentals including analytics, economics, marketing strategy, and sales process

Q Clearance: 

This position requires the ability to obtain and maintain a clearance from the Department of Energy. As such, this position is a Workplace Substance Abuse (WSAP) testing designated position. WSAP positions require passing a pre-placement drug test and participation in an ongoing random drug testing program.
