Job Summary:

This part-time National History Day in Colorado Senior Coordinator position (0.75 FTE) is in charge of overseeing the program success throughout the state through consistent communication (updates about dates for regional competitions, teacher trainings, newsletters, calls for volunteers to be judges, etc.) with coordinators, teachers, judges, students, parents, and community stakeholders. The NHDC Senior Coordinator must manage multiple databases and track program trends used for various reports.

The NHDC Senior Coordinator plays a key role in programming throughout the year, not only being the main point of contact for all contests, but also leading efforts in research events, educator professional developments, and individualized classroom visits. 

Key Responsibilities:

  • Communications
    • Maintain communication with regional coordinators, teachers, community partners, teachers, students, and parents via email and Mail Chimp
    • Create a system of mass news communication to educators and support base
    • Consistent website maintenance and updating
    • Assist in the preparation of the Annual Report to the Board
    • Post updates on social media
  • Data Management
    • Maintain databases of current teachers, judges, volunteers, and students
    • Track long-term trends in History Day data and report
    • Assist with the annual data report to the National Office
    • Prepare data and contact reports to the University of Colorado Denver
    • Maintain surveys of judges and teachers
  • Recruitment of volunteers, supporters, and new schools
    • Seek out information for administrative and teacher contacts through school websites
    • Attend conferences and other events where potential program adoptees could be present
    • Promote the poster contest and refer interested parties to the Graduate Assistant in charge
  • Educator Workshops
    • Set times and locations for educator workshops through collaboration with community partners, stakeholders, teachers, and/or coordinators
    • Refine teacher and student training materials (e.g. curriculum guides, binders)
    • Plan breakout sessions
    • Plan large seminar sessions
    • Recruit new and veteran teachers to attend the trainings
    • Maintain consistent communication about times and locations
    • Provide professional development certificates following the training
    • Maintain metrics on workshop success through surveys
  • Direct Classroom Support
    • Work directly with students in providing feedback on their projects
    • Mentor teachers through the curriculum and process
    • Acquire and disseminate materials needed for low-income schools
    • Facilitate the History Day class for COSLI students
  • Interns
    • Recruit college students to the internship program
    • Locate sources for expanded internship programs statewide
    • Create training materials and plans for classroom internship
    • Train and mentor interns and host teachers
    • Perform periodic check-ins and classroom visits to gauge effectiveness of intern and assess intern-teacher relationships
    • Host debriefing sessions with interns
  • Regional Contests
    • Create online registration systems through Google Forms
    • Schedule website locks across all regional contests
    • Assist regional coordinators in creating contest databases, schedules, training materials, and other contest related items
    • Attend contests to assist coordinators as needed and represent CU Denver
    • Keep data on students, teachers, and schools that participated for grant and University reporting
  • State Contest
    • Create online registration system and maintain the contest databases of community students
    • Generate regional winner packets with instructions about the State Contest to be disseminated at every regional contest
    • Manage online sites for student registration, judge training, and website “locking” systems
    • Organize contest schedules and post for students, teachers, parents
    • Keep in constant contact with students, teachers, parents, volunteers, and judges
    • Recruit judges and volunteers
    • Train judges and volunteers
    • Secure facilities
    • Monitor awards and certificates of actual contest and special awards
    • Maintain database of rankings and prepare final results
    • Plan day-of logistics (room schedules, technology, etc)
    • Maintain data on students, teachers, and schools that participated for grant and University reporting
  • National Contest
    • Report national qualifiers to the National Office and assist with registration
    • Accompany the Colorado delegation to College Park, Maryland
    • Assist in arranging travel for low-income students
    • Plan activities for the delegation
    • Attend mandatory meetings from the NHD office
    • Document the event and report student progress to stakeholders
  • Research Rendezvous
    • Communicate with cultural partners and libraries to secure locations and volunteers for the event
    • Communicate with students, teachers, and volunteers to promote the events
    • Generate programming schedule and individual student schedules
    • Recruit experts to work with students or lecture in the mini-seminars
  • Finances
    • Help with grant reporting and applications when needed
    • Maintain the register of expenses and monitor expense reports for accuracy
    • Prepare monthly income/expense reports for the Board

Qualifications:

Minimum Qualifications:

  • A bachelor’s degree in history, public administration, humanities, education, social science, marketing, communications, public relations, or a directly related field from an accredited institution
  • 2 years of professional level experience in teaching or program administration.

Substitution: A combination of education and related technical/paraprofessional experience may be substituted for the bachelor’s degree on a year for year basis.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • K-12 teaching or administrative experience
  • Familiarity with K-12 education policies and practices
  • Expertise in middle school and/or high school curriculum

    Anticipated Pay Range:

    The starting salary range for this position has been established as $40,000-$52,557.

    The above hiring range represents the University’s good faith and reasonable estimate of the range of possible compensation at the time of posting. This position may be eligible for overtime compensation depending on the level.
