Duke University Hospital-Based Clinics New Graduate RN Program

New Graduate Registered Nurse program- Hospital-Based Clinics is now accepting applications for the July cohort.

-This position is seeking: May 2023 Nursing School Graduates (Graduates prior to May 2023 may be considered)

Department Profile:

Our ambulatory care delivery system spans primary care, specialty and subspecialty clinics along with endoscopy, infusion, and hyperbaric services. The Duke University Hospital South Clinic location houses 26 specialty clinic/procedural locations.

Work Hours & Shifts:

Full Time: Days (8, 10, and 12 hour shifts)

About the Program:

There is no better place to start your nursing career than at Magnet designated Duke University Health System where our nurse residency program is second to none! This is a unique opportunity for new graduate RNs to work in an ambulatory care setting during this 8-week program. Once you complete the orientation, you will be placed based on your preference and current needs. You will spend:

  • Week 1 in hospital orientation
  • Week 2 (Shadow Week) – includes shadowing in our medicine, surgery, and procedural clinics
  • Weeks 3-8 are spent rotating through 3 clinic (2 weeks in each clinic)

Duties and Respsonsibilities:


New graduate RN nurse is responsible for the plan, provide, supervise and document professional nursing care utilizing the nursing process for patients in accordance with physician orders and established policies and procedures. Use professional nursing judgment to individualize the plan of care based on assessment of the patient's baseline needs and response to care.

Knowledge, Skills, Education, and Experience Required:

Graduation from an accredited Bachelor’s Degree in Nursing (or higher), Associate's Degree in Nursing or Nursing Diploma program is required.  All registered nurses without a Bachelor's degree in Nursing (or higher) will be required to enroll in an appropriate BSN program within two years of their start date and to complete the program within five years of their start date

Licensure, Certification or Registration Required:

  • Current registration with North Carolina State Board of Nursing as a registered professional nurse OR current compact RN licensure to practice in the state of North Carolina required by start date.
  • BLS (or higher) certification required.
