  • Perform calculations using Monte Carlo, FLUKA, and other applicable computer codes to determine shielding requirements, to estimate induced radioactivity and to estimate dose to personnel and environment.

  • Provide radiation physics support to BNL accelerators.

  • Lead a staff of modelers to provide timely and effective support to BNL's accelerator facilities.

  • Review accelerator designs to identify and specify shielding requirements to ensure staff are protected from stray radiation fields.

  • Peer review shielding calculations performed by others.

  • Recommend additional shielding analyses that should be performed.

  • Provide support for safe radiological operations during commissioning/operations of the accelerators by helping to develop procedures, reports and establishing protocols in conjunction with other cognizant ESH personnel at BNL.
