Neutral Beam Mechanical Engineer provides Mechanical Engineering operations and Maintenance and Run Preparation, technical support and assistance on complicated and varying Neutral Beam Injection (NBI) System ion sources, electrical and mechanical systems, water and vacuum, and liquid nitrogen and liquid helium cryogenic systems and their services and logistics.

 

The Princeton Plasma Physics Laboratory is a world-class fusion energy research laboratory managed by Princeton University for the U.S. Department of Energy’s Office of Science. PPPL is dedicated to developing the scientific and technological knowledge base for fusion energy. The Laboratory advances the fields of fusion energy and plasma physics research to develop the scientific understanding and key innovations needed to realize fusion as an energy source for the world.



  • Apply standard engineering knowledge, techniques, and theory to create and interpret designs, calculations, drawings, sketches, and documents, offering creative solutions in solving engineering, technical, cost, space usage, and schedule issues. Support Engineering upgrades while mitigating system obsolescence risks. (30%)
  • Generates and follows complex procedures within the context of laboratory policy, procedure, and protocols to design, test, fabricate, install, maintain, and operate various mechanical systems in support of experimental operations and maintenance of equipment including hoisting and rigging. (30%)
  • Mechanical Engineering support for full cycle evaluation and tracking of LPIS. Design & fabrication solution for source related performance issues. Support for technical staff with technical planning, research for components and supplies. (30%)
  • Safety/Housekeeping/Training & other Eng Dept requirements as needed. (10%)


Education and Experience:

  • BSc. Mechanical Engineering, required
  • 2 years industry experience
  • Military experience preferred
