Position Focus:

This position manages the delivery of nursing care and medical services for the Yale Neurology clinic in New Haven.  This position will lead, oversee, and coordinate onsite Nursing Staff (LPNs) to ensure the delivery of excellent patient care. The Clinical Nurse Manager develops, implements, and monitors programs, policies and procedures to ensure the highest quality of patient care and satisfaction through operational efficiency, best utilization and productivity of staff. Responsible for practice metrics analysis and reporting, and patient experience. May perform other duties as assigned.


Essential Duties

1. Evaluates the quality and effectiveness of nursing practice and nursing services multi specialty physician practices. Assign responsibilities and duties as related to appropriate licensure and experience of staff member. 2. Analyzes internal and external data and information to identify opportunities for improving services, patient outcomes and patient satisfaction. 3. Evaluates staff performance based on professional practice standards and development. Conduct performance evaluations and implement corrective actions in order to promote a productive and healthy work environment. 4. Provides leadership, guidance and direction to clinical staff. Collaborate with nursing staff at all levels. Bases decisions and actions on ethical principles and fosters a non-discriminatory environment. 5. Interviews, hires, and trains clinical staff. Ensures all clinical staff maintains required training skills 6. Responsible for operating within approved budget. 7. Obtains and assesses vital signs, patient history, medications and other pertinent demographic information and log all data into records according to practice policy and standards. 8. Evaluates and presents patient history and diagnosis to physician using concise and accurate verbal communication. 9. Assures all procedures for maintaining patient confidentiality are maintained per HIPAA guidelines. 10. Provides patient education about various health care topics and medications. 11. May perform other duties as assigned.


Required Education and Experience

Bachelor Degree in Nursing and three years of nursing experience or an equivalent combination of education and experience.


Required Skill/Ability 1:

Excellent communication skills, both verbally and in writing. Ability to interact positively and effectively within all levels of the organization. Ability to operate autonomously with minimal direction.


Required Skill/Ability 2:

Solid ability with EHRs/EMRs, preferably Epic and Reporting/Data Management. Strong computer skills proficiency with all Microsoft products.


Required Skill/Ability 3:

Ability to make reasonable & difficult decisions while under pressure that will stand up to retrospective scrutiny, combined w/ability to stay cool under pressure. Strong leadership capabilities w/the ability to manage multi initiatives in response to continuously & rapidly changing priorities.


Required Skill/Ability 4:

Ability to think strategically & see bigger picture to establish objectives relevant to Neurology's clinical practice mission. Ability to assist in long-range planning for department needs. Ability to be a decisive, hands on team player. Results & detail-oriented w/proven organizational skills.


Required Skill/Ability 5:

Ability to work within an organizational hierarchy, particularly in academic med center. Ability to develop policies & procedures to improve department function. Ability to identify areas of concern in regards to workflow & ensure it is organized & staffed for quality efficient.


Preferred Education, Experience and Skills:

M.S.N. in Nursing or Health Services Administration or evidence of on-going post-baccalaureate training in Nursing Administration. Six years of previous experience in Nursing Service Administration, at least two of which have been neuroscience and/or medical surgical nursing. Prior supervisory and administrative responsibilities.
