Neurodiversity Navigators Part-Time Instructor

The Neurodiversity Navigators program is a nationally ranked, cohort-based, series of academic classes and supportive services designed to increase the access, retention, and completion of students self-identifying as autistic or neurodivergent.  Experiential Learning cohort classes are designed to support disability identity development through a social justice, strengths-based lens, with a focus on academic and career preparation.

The program is seeking additional faculty to teach one or more of the academic classes in the program, including:

  • EXPRL 180, Skills for Navigating College and Career
  • EXPRL 181, Self and Community Advocacy
  • EXPRL 182, Executive Functioning in the Workplace
  • EXPRL 280, Who am I, Where Am I Going?
  • EXPRL 281, Connecting with Community
  • STEM 111, STEM Cohort:  Intersections of Disability
  • STEM 112, STEM Cohort:  Disability Access and Advocacy

Adjunct Professor is typically assigned as needed on a quarterly basis, with no expectation of continued employment beyond the current appointment.

Quarterly remuneration for 5-credit lecture class is $5,716.52 - $6,968.62. Compensation is prorated based on type and duration of assignments. Individuals newly hired to Adjunct Professor group at the college are placed at the minimum rate per union bargaining agreement. Certain positions may also be eligible for assignment/project-based additional compensation, including a High Demand Stipend up to $8,350 annually, prorated based on the discipline and duration of the assignment. All additional compensations are subject to change depending on funding and negotiated agreement.

Generous benefits package for eligible employees is offered through Washington State plans that includes multiple medical, dental, life and disability coverage choices for employees and dependents; choices of retirement and deferred compensation plans; paid personal leave plan; transit program, reduced tuition, employee discounts and memberships, etc. Eligible employees are faculty who work a combined load of at least 50% at Bellevue College and other Washington State public institutions of higher education for two consecutive quarters are eligible for health and dental insurance at the start of the second consecutive quarter. 

In addition to teaching, faculty maintains office hours and may participate in department and college activities. This position is represented by the Bellevue College Association of Higher Education (BCAHE) union.

The Neurodiversity Navigators program is housed within Bellevue College’s Center for Career Connections, which in turn is a sub-unit of the Connected Learning division.  The Neurodiversity Navigators program is an innovative program at Bellevue College that offers neurodivergent students educational programming along with individualized advocacy and support to access college services. The program strives to ensure that the BC Neurodivergent population can grow and learn in a Neurodiversity Culturally Responsive environment. Neurodiversity Navigators includes a series of cohort-based classes for students, which they take alongside their chosen programs of study.  Neurodiversity Navigators experiential learning classes are designed as career preparation classes, and they focus on essential skills such as Executive Functioning, Self-Advocacy, Social Interaction, and Self-Regulation.


At Neurodiversity Navigators, the mission is to provide educational opportunities to increase self-knowledge that leads to successful academic outcomes in the areas of executive functioning, self-regulation, social interaction, self-advocacy, and career preparation. Neurodiversity Navigators supports neurodivergent students with advocacy and access services and actively promotes a campus and community environment of inclusion and understanding of students, faculty, and staff with neurological differences.

  • Serve as primary instructor for one or more academic classes in the Neurodiversity Navigators program, which may include but are not limited to EXPRL 180, 181, 182, 280 and 281.
  • Use a variety of teaching and learning strategies and innovative techniques, including universal design principles, that engage students actively in their own learning and assist students in the equitable achievement of learning outcomes.
  • Teach courses offered in on-ground, HyFlex, hybrid, and on-line modalities that meet on a variety of days and/or times.
  • Use a variety of methods to assess student learning in classes and provide timely written and verbal feedback.
  • Foster a positive, caring, and equitable learning environment for a multi-cultural, multi-ability, multilingual student population.
  • Regularly assess the effectiveness of Neurodiversity Navigator courses relative to stated course outcomes.
  • Contribute to ongoing curriculum development, assessment, revision, and implementation through inter- and intra-departmental cooperation and collaboration. Maintain knowledge and skills current in discipline and area of assignment.
  • Participate in the life and culture of the department, division, and college, including the college-wide effort to dismantle barriers that can impact underrepresented and historically marginalized student populations.
  • Perform related duties as required.
  • Master's degree from an accredited institution in Education/Special Education, Psychology, Social Work, Occupational Therapy, or other related field (articulate in a cover letter how your degree has prepared you for this specific position).
  • Two years of experience teaching in a secondary or post-secondary environment.
  • Experience teaching systemically non-dominant populations, and a dedication to closing achievement and access gaps.
  • Background that shows willingness to engage in professional development activities.
  • Prior experience that shows ability to work in a team environment.
  • Background or prior experience that shows ability to work in an inclusive manner with diverse faculty, staff, and student population.
  • Prior experience that utilizes effective interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to communicate effectively verbally and in writing.
  • Experience working with and supporting Autistic/Neurodivergent people along with personal involvement  within the Autistic/Neurodivergent communities.
  • Proficiency in  learner-centered teaching and collaborative learning.
  • Demonstrated background or prior experience in equity, fairness and inclusive pedagogy.
  • Experience working with a social justice approach of disability.
  • Experience working within a growth mindset, strengths-based model of disability.
  • Experience in addressing and monitoring equity and disproportionate impact issues in higher education.
