What You'll Be Doing:
As the Network Voice Engineer, you will design systems for use in the telecommunications field to manage VoIP (voice over Internet protocol) and telephony systems. This position is responsible for tasks such as designing, installing, operating, maintaining, and troubleshooting voice communication systems. You will manage and supervise telecommunications infrastructure and its related software, such as call management systems, VoIP, video conferencing, voice mail, and other telephony and network applications. You will be responsible for overseeing the performance of voice systems and conduct traffic analysis and capacity planning so that the quality-of-service functions properly. This position will work with telephony protocols, such as SIP, TCP/IP, QoS, etc. You will be responsible for evaluating existing capabilities and aiding in planning guidelines to tap emerging trends in cloud, VoIP, mobility solutions and managed services. The Network Voice Engineer will work in the PSC Network Operations and Engineering teams to improve operational stability by evaluating new technologies and conducting root cause analysis.
The Purdue System Cloud is a co-operative venture between Purdue West Lafayette, Purdue Northwest (Hammond/Westville), and Purdue Ft. Wayne. This position may be located at any one of the three campuses in a multi-vendor environment. This position works a standard 40-hour week with hours between 8am and 5pm. Network outages and special projects will require work outside these hours (at night, weekends, and holidays). Network operations and engineering operates an on-call schedule for unplanned events.
This position will be a hybrid position with reporting to the Hammond campus one day a week.
What We're Looking For:
Education and Experience
Must have:
- Bachelor’s degree in telecommunication, networking, engineering, IT or related field
- Two (2) – Three (3) years of experience in network engineering, architecture design, supporting and deploying solutions for infrastructures including LAN, WAN, Voice and Wireless networks
- Equivalent combination of education and experience may be accepted
Preferred:
- Cisco Voice\Collaboration certification
- Cisco Contact Center experience
- Experience with switching, routing, DHCP, DNS, virtualization, and firewalls
Skills:
- Experience in an enterprise level Cisco VoIP environment
- Ability to perform configuration and installation of Unified Communication (UC) products and services
- Practical technical knowledge of Cisco and other vendors’ voice technologies, network standards and best practices, and network security and controls
- Practical knowledge of project management including planning, collaboration, and documentation
- Must be able to work with staff across institutions using the most appropriate technologies to meet the needs of all three campuses
- Verbal and written communication skills
- US Citizen with a valid driver’s license
- Ability to work outside regular office hours (night, weekends, and holidays)
- Ability to participate in an on-call schedule for unplanned events
Preferred:
- Knowledge of switching, routing, DHCP, DNS, virtualization, and firewalls
