Network Support Analyst

PRIMARY OBJECTIVE

Reporting directly to the Exec Dir-Infrastructure Services, the Network Support Analyst is responsible for the planning, installation, design, and maintenance of various network components.  This individual will also research and evaluate network technologies and make recommendations for network equipment purchases. In addition, this position provides initial customer assistance in network troubleshooting and will be responsible for creating documentation related to networking and standards.

 

ESSENTIAL DUTIES

  • Manages and maintains computer networks, hardware, software, and all configurations.  Serves as a technical specialist in network problems and emergencies.
  • Provides technical assistance to Sr. Network Support Analysts and end users. Conduct technical research on network upgrades and components to determine feasibility, cost, the time required, and compatibility with the current system.
  • Installs, configures, and supports local area networks (LANs), wide area networks (WANs), Internet systems, and components of network systems.  Work with vendors to resolve complex network problems.
  • Ensures that all workstations, servers, and other network appliances have proper network connectivity. Assists in district-wide data wiring and cabling standards.
  • Develops and maintains documentation and adheres to change management procedures and other networking processes and standards.
  • Installs security patches, updates and new and enhanced releases of network software and operating systems.  Works on security and other risk prevention.
  • Diagnoses issues relating to software, hardware, IT systems, and network. Troubleshoots and replaces faulty components when needed.  Documents network problems and resolutions for future reference.
  • Provides technical support and aid in disaster recovery tests.  Reviews response time and bandwidth utilization statistics using network utilities and tools.
  • Provides training on network equipment and software as necessary.
  • Adheres to CCC Customer Service Excellence standards.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Associate’s degree (Bachelor’s degree preferred) in Computer Science, Engineering or related field, or equivalent combination of technical experience, training and certification.  Minimum three years’ experience in a data/voice networking position, preferably in an academic setting.  Some certification is a plus.
  • Must be able to think logically, possess sound analytical skills, and be detail oriented with good customer support skills.
  • Familiarity with wireless, wired and remote access infrastructure.
  • Above average verbal and written communication required with ability to simplify and communicate semi-complicated technical information to varied audiences.  Must conduct interactions with users in a polite, patient and courteous manner.
  • Proficiency in installing, maintaining and supporting various networking technologies such as Cisco, HP, wireless, mobility and Windows/Mac/Linux-based technologies. Working knowledge of cabling infrastructure, networking protocols, and systems.
  • Must be self-directed and able to prioritize work. Must be able to meet deadlines in a timely manner.  In addition, must be able to participate and interact as a team play on many projects throughout the District to meet goals and deadlines.
  • Must be able to work some varied hours including late afternoons, nights, weekends or holidays during scheduled maintenance windows or emergencies and be accessible by provided cell phone 24/7 for technical emergency calls.
