Network Engineer

 

 

Position Summary

The Network Engineer will deploy and support all relevant networking technology functions in multi-site healthcare system.  This includes: LAN, WAN, WiFi, routers, switches and the underlying networking cabling/protocols supporting modern data/VoIP systems. The Network Engineer will aid Senior Network Engineers in the analysis, design, engineering, testing, documentation, implementation, maintenance, and operation of network components. The position will also provide design and support to other IT departments and business customers.

 

Duties of a Network Engineer may include the following but are not limited to:

  • Implement, maintain, troubleshoot all networking technology in healthcare system.
  • Perform lifecycle upgrades of network infrastructure including firmware and hardware replacements.
  • Test network connections
  • Answer Level 1 and Level 2 network related help desk tickets.
  • Act as team-member on various network infrastructure projects including possible off-hours implementations and communicate effectively both with senior administrators and team members.
  • Act as project lead on tasked network infrastructure projects including documentation, project and team management functions, scheduling and communications to senior administrators and customers.
  • Research, report and troubleshoot network performance and unplanned outage events including working with departmental data systems, administrators and network management tools to resolve.
  • Provide Level 1 and Level 2 network infrastructure support to customers and senior engineers of healthcare system.
  • Project, design and troubleshooting tasks may involve travel to/from healthcare system sites.
  • Preform upgrades of network closet infrastructure including rack and stack tasks.
  • Patch jacks and cable equipment as needed.
  • Document and diagram projects, systems and infrastructures on timely and regular basis.
  • Coordinate and oversee vendor installations and maintenance.
  • Maintain currency with trends and best practices in information technology.
  • Share information and knowledge and cross-train with I/S colleagues.
  • Leverage technical knowledge of operating systems, computers and networks in all aspects work product.
  • Support the business customer and I/S colleagues as required to ensure mutual success
  • Inventory of Networking equipment and supplies.
  • Participate in paid on-call/after-hours support rotation with onsite recall emergency response. 

 

Qualifications

Required:  

  • Bachelor’s Degree and two (2) years’ experience with network infrastructure devices/systems; Associate’s Degree and four (4) years’ experience; or in lieu of Degree, six (6) years’ related network experience in medium/large enterprise (>500 computers).
  • Working knowledge of network connectivity protocols including DHCP, DNS, IP subnetting, etc. 
  • Understanding of OSI model, switching, routing functionality.  Ability to travel to remote sites and work independently.
  • Possess outstanding communication skills while adhering to our high standard of excellence.
  • Work both collaboratively with team and customers while also being able to work independently.

 

Preferred: 

  • Working knowledge of routing and switch protocols including (EIGRP, STP, OSPF, LLDP, IGMP, QOS, ARP, etc.)
  • Working knowledge of DHCP, DNS, RADIUS, TACACS in enterprise environment.
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft AD and domains in enterprise environment.
  • Working knowledge of Virtual Machine environments (VMWare, Hyper-V, etc.)
  • Working knowledge of network protocols such as (FTP, SFTP, SSL, etc.)
  • Working experience with Cisco Catalyst or Nexus switching platforms.
  • Knowledge of fiber-optic technologies, WAN or routing protocols (EIGRP, OSPF, BGP, etc.)
  • Working knowledge of troubleshooting with Wireshark, including protocol decoding and filters.
  • Working knowledge of WiFi functionality and protocols.
  • Achievement of network or security certifications (e.g., CompTIA Network +, CCNA, CISSP, etc.)
  • Work experience in large enterprise or healthcare facility (>1,000 computers).

 

Physical Demands:

  • The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. 
  • While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to communicate with patients, staff and medical providers.  The employee must be able to exchange accurate information in these situations. 
  • This position is varied in physical requirements including both requiring employee to remain stationary for a majority of the day while also requiring the lifting, of network devices (up to 50 lbs.) and performing other physical activities like patching jacks, racking equipment, bending, kneeling and standing.

Anticipated Pay Range:

The starting salary range (or hiring range) for this position has been established as - $70390 - $80856. 

The above salary range (or hiring range) represents SBUH’s good faith and reasonable estimate of the range of possible compensation at the time of posting.

In addition, all UUP positions have an additional $3,087 for location,
