Job Summary 


As a Network Engineer, you will design, program, maintain, optimize, and support logical wired and wireless networks. This will include network optimization, infrastructure implementation, and network equipment configuration. You may work in any or all of the 3 layers of networks. You will design and maintain network and data center architectures, perform internetwork troubleshooting and network management, ensure network availability and admission control, and perform capacity planning, switch management, and router management. Your tasks will include requirement and vendor analysis.

What we are looking for:  


Education and Experience:   


This position provides an opportunity for people of varying levels of skill. If you are early in your career, this could be a great opportunity for you. If you have a lot of education, experience, and skill, we'll compensate you accordingly.  The hiring department assigns different levels of pay depending on experience/education/skills and business needs.    

Early Career Professional (Level 53): Bachelor's degree or 4 years of a combination of education and engineering experience required. ($69,000 to $89,500 is the approximate starting salary range.) 

 

Professional (Level 54T): Bachelor's degree and two years of engineering experience required (or an equivalent combination of relevant education and experience). Experience in network virtualization is required. ($83,000 to $107,500 is the approximate starting salary range.) 

 

Senior Professional (Level 55T): Bachelor's degree and five years of engineering experience required, or master's degree and three years of engineering experience. A minimum of two years of technical supervisory experience is required (part-time or full-time) included in the general experience above. Experience in network virtualization is required. ($96,500 to $125,000 is the approximate starting salary range.)

Core Technical Skills: 


Be conversant in two or more of the following areas: 


  • Networking Core Technologies: IP internetworking, LAN switching, Optical, Dynamic IP routing protocols (OSPF, EIGRP, BGP, Multicast); WAN design and protocols (MPLS, TDM, DWDM); LAN technologies driving current and next-generation data center designs (core switching, load balancing, and security). 
  • DNS and DHCP  
  • Layer 2 technologies (Spanning Tree- PVST, Rapid-PVST, Port Aggregation- LACP/PAgP, Trunking- 802.1q, DHCP snooping, MAC address per port limiting, Access Lists- Standard and Extended) 
  • Layer 2 network design
  • Switching network design, fiber & copper design and installation, pathway, cabling, and documentation, USP design, communications room layout, wireless network design" 
  • Layer 3 Technologies (MPLS- VPN, TE, Routing protocols, BGP, EIGRP, OSPF, EVPN). 
  • Ability to diagnose and resolve network issues at layers 1 through 3 
  • Service Oriented Architecture (SOAP and REST web services) 
  • Network architectures 
  • Fiber theory 
  • Data center architectures 

Related Technical Skills:

  • Stateful inspection systems (Firewall, SSL, VPN)
