Basic Function
Under the direction of the Senior Manager Information Technology, the Network Administrator II will apply knowledge and skills to install, maintain, troubleshoot, and document network hardware, software and networks for the students, employees, and affiliates of California Lutheran University. The Network Administrator will take a leading role in specialized IT projects.
Representative Duties
  • Install, configure, maintain, and troubleshoot layer 2 and layer 3 wired and wireless network equipment, including but not limited to Cisco, Juniper and Enterasys (Extreme). E
  • Properly document product installation and configuration to assist in future installations and troubleshooting. E
  • Maintain, install, and troubleshoot computer hardware, peripherals and network related infrastructure, correct hardware related issues through repair or replacement. E
  • Maintain and troubleshoot centralized and decentralized servers (servers/services and related applications that may or may not fall out of the scope of business-critical status, typically decentralized departmental specific servers) and computer lab specific connectivity. E
  • Make recommendations and assist with planning, design, research and implementation of network hardware and software, maintaining knowledge of current network hardware and software technologies. E
  • Educate users in the proper use of business and administrative software packages via individual or class instruction. E

    E= Essential Duties
Knowledge Of
  • Hardware, software, and networking protocols
  • Computer networks including Windows and Apple networking; TCP/IP, SMB, IGMP, and SMTP Protocols; BGP, OSPF, RSTP; Ethernet media; network topology; local and wide area networks; wireless networks and related protocols
  • Operating Systems including intermediate knowledge of Microsoft Windows; intermediate knowledge of Apple OS desired
  • Computer software including Microsoft Office Suite; email clients (Outlook, Mac, Mail, Thunderbird; Antivirus)
  • Computer hardware and peripherals; proper techniques for maintaining an inventory of hardware.
Ability To
  • Effectively communicate technical issues in a technical and nontechnical manner.
  • Identify issues, evaluate, and execute a plan to resolve technical issues related to computer software, hardware, and networks.
  • Perform related tasks for issue resolution over the phone and in person.
  • Work independently with little direction and meet scheduled project timelines.
  • Serve as a technical liaison to users to identify needs and resolve technical issues.
  • Read and interpret technical manuals and documentation through written and verbal communication.
  • Establish, maintain, and strengthen cooperative and effective working relationships with colleagues and clients.
  • Prioritize and manage workload assigned.
  • Perform specialized duties in the technical field.
  • Work flexible hours and be on-call, to include occasional nights and weekends.
  • Operate a vehicle to conduct work
Minimum Qualifications
Any combination equivalent to: two years of college-level course work in computers, networking applications and systems, computer science, management information systems, information systems, or closely related field and five years of increasingly responsible experience in computer, network, hardware, and software installation, maintenance, and repair.
Preferred Qualifications
Bachelors Degree, CCNA, MCSA
Licenses and other requirements
Valid California Driver’s License
Physical Abilities
Speak clearly to exchange information; dexterity of hands and fingers to operate a
computer keyboard and replace computer parts; seeing to inspect equipment and configure devices; sitting or standing for extended periods of time; lifting, carrying, pushing or pulling moderately heavy objects up to 50 pounds; climbing ladders; bending at the waist, kneeling or crouching; ability to work at heights and operate an aerial lift, and other vehicles to conduct work.
Environment
Indoor and outdoor environments; constant interruptions; ability to work flexible
hours to include nights and weekends; subject to operating a vehicle to conduct work.
Hiring Range $35.00 - $40.00
