Job Description

Conduct training for NCDAC employees to include section of Prisons, section of Community Corrections and section of Juvenile Justice, and develop and instruct continuing education drone training.

This position may have occasional travel between campuses and for training. Occasional after hours may be required.

Essential Duties

70% 

  • Primary responsibility is to conduct training for North Carolina Department of Adult Corrections (NCDAC) employees to include Section of Prisons, Section of Community Corrections and Section of Juvenile Justice.

30% 

  • Maintain Contracts for Training, schedule classes, schedule instructors, complete registration sheets for classes, maintain rosters, ensure equipment is available for classes and any other administrative duties that may be required for classes being taught.

    • Perform systematic analysis that helps to identify program and employment needs and areas for growth and improvement.
    • Coordinate the implementation of non-credit programming in the correctional facilities in the college service area.
    • Coordinate assigned Occupational Extension Programming.
    • Oversee program data entry, instructor contract documentation, scheduling, payroll, Colleague data entry, and other tasks required for operation.
    • Collect, sort, consolidate, and file documentation to include start forms, contracts, and class change forms to ensure the accuracy and efficiency of paperwork.
    • Plan, schedule and create classes and enter into Colleague/Destiny One in the preparation of class start packets and assist with the registration process of classes.
    • Supervise all prison program instructors and conduct periodic personnel evaluations as required by the College.
    • Serve as the point of contact/liaison between prison and College staff.  Attend all meetings required by the College and/or correctional facility and receive all requests for programming as determined by the correctional facilities.
    • Responsible for completing the Prison Education Program (PEP) Joint Annual Plan submitted to the NC Community College System Office and the NCDAC each fiscal year and submitting to the Dean of Public Safety for approval.
    • Ensures that all necessary documentation is kept current and delivered in a timely manner
    • Determine need for supplies; ensure proper storage and security of supplies
    • Prepare lesson plans, course overviews and course syllabi for NCDAC courses as needed.  
    • Create classroom activities and learning environments that meet the needs of all learners, including high school students, adult learners, and senior populations.
    • Assist with the Drone Program when no DAC duties are required.
    • Other duties assigned.


Minimum Requirements

Required educational background:

  • High School Graduate
  • Current General Instructor Certification by North Carolina Department of Justice, Training and Standards Division

Required kind and number years of work experience:


  • 5 Years’ experience as an employee in Department of Corrections (Department of Adult Corrections) or North Carolina Sheriff’s Office Detention Facility

Required license or certificate: 

  • A valid North Carolina Driver’s License or the ability to attain one upon hire.
  • Current General Instructor certification by North Carolina Department of Justice, Training and Standards Division

  • American Heart CPR Instructor Certification

  • NCDAC Unlawful Workplace Harassment Instructor Certification 

  • NCDAC Staff Offender Instructor Certification 

  • NCDAC Security Risk Group (Gang) Instructor Certification 

  • NCDAC Cell Extraction Certification Safariland OC Instructor Certification 

  • NCDAC Wellness & Fitness Instructor Certification



Preferred Requirements

  • 5 Years’ experience as an employee in Department of Corrections (Department of Adult Corrections) or North Carolina Sheriff’s Office Detention Facility
  • Experience as a drone pilot
  • Administrator experience in a drone program
  • Bachelor’s degree in a Criminal Justice or closely related field from a regionally accredited college/university
  • Current Specialized Instructor Certification by NC DOJ, Criminal Justice Training and Standards Division in any of the Specializations
  • Part 107 drone pilot license.
