The Ormond Center marshals the collective wisdom and knowledge of Duke Divinity School, the wider University and its many organizational and community, regional, national and global partners in three key areas of concentration: (1) conducting pioneering empirical and translational research on the questions of barriers to thriving and what it means and takes for clergy, congregations, and their communities to thrive in contemporary settings,  2) directly supporting local partners, in the full range of communities that Duke Divinity School serves, through capacity building and convening, and (3) catalyzing new pathways of learning and leadership formation through curricular and social practice, and innovative ideas for solutions to addressing barriers to thriving.

This position will be a key leader in implementing the mission of the Ormond Center at the community level of the economy, in North Carolina. Specifically, developing initiates within the “NC Thrives” framework, which groups the NC-based work of the Ormond Center that promotes and enables flourishing in our local context. This work intends to connect the life of Duke Divinity School (DDS) with the life of the community. Thoughtful and strategic integration with the Duke Endowment ecosystem of partners and DDS offerings and communities will be essential for cultivating a Christian vision of shalom.

The NC Thrives Process Lead will manage the Pathways of Repair (PWoR) process, demonstrating tangible and measurable results within the Ormond Centers focus areas, which are Education Inequity/Inequality, Poverty, Climate Care &Eco Justice, Food Insecurity, Affordable Housing and Mental Heal of Millennials as governed by the Center’s current strategic plan and through future discernment. 

Occupational Summary

Lead the implementation of strategic initiatives for NC Thrives Pathways of Repair. Lead, develop, implement and evaluate the initiatives of the Pathways of Repair process and related NC-anchored programming. This staff position is grant funded by the Duke Endowment until December 31, 2024 with the possibility for continued funding. This position will require flexibility for travel across North Carolina on a regular basis.


Work Performed

Pathways of Repair Leadership

Direct, manage, and ensure successful fulfillment of the process.

Develop and track program outcomes according to The Ormond Center, Duke Divinity School and The Duke Endowment objectives.  

Refine program strategy and oversee the day-to-day implementation of programs invited into the process.

Manage employees, student interns, student fellows, contractors, and advisors.

Manage project budget including budget reconciliation, budget narrative reporting, and budget recommendations.

Oversee grant reporting and ensure proper documentation

Lead internal and external relationship building and recruitment for project stakeholders and participants.

Provide logistical and structural support for activities, including in-person and virtual gatherings, relevant technologies, allocation of resources, curriculum, and research in consultation with NC Thrives personnel, the Executive Director of the Ormond Center, The Pathways of Repair Advisor(s) and the Dean of the Divinity School.

Collaborate with the DDS Field Education staff and lead faculty of practice related certificates to ensure integration, if desired, between grant program activities, Communities of Learning /practical learning / contextual learning within the DDS ecological space (e.g., Certificate of Christian Education; Certificate in Faith, Food and Environmental Justice; Certificate in Faith-Based Organizing; Advocacy; and Social Transformation; Certificate in Missional Innovation; Certificate in Prison Studies)  .

Provide support to relevant associate deans to develop and implement certificate and stackable credit pathways for Pathways of Repair participants.

Develop sustainability plan and help secure future funding for the Pathways of Repair implementation and/or related offerings

NC Thrives Leadership

Identify strategic integration opportunities between Ormond Center and Duke Divinity School

Identify strategic integration opportunities within The Duke Endowment Ecosystem

Attend strategic convenings on behalf of the Ormond Center at Duke Divinity School and within The Duke Endowment intermediary community members

Develop strategic partnerships with NC-based organizations to advance Ormond Center mission and program objectives

Support the development of learning pathways for students and community members through Ormond Center offerings


Departmental Preferences

Masters of Divinity degree

Demonstrated experience co-creating collaboratively withinand a cross religious congregations, local and state governments, for-profit,n on-profit, and other community stakeholders to design and implement init iativesthat address barriers to thriving congregations and communities.  

Demonstrated experience working diverse constituenciesand sectors

Demonstrated experiencewith walking alongside marginalized communities

C ommitment toflourishing among churches that serve the communities, cultu ral and differences,those living below the poverty line, and rural churc hes.

Exceptional verbal, wr itten, and presentation skills

Competency using community data technologies for datamanagement, ana lysis, and visualization  

Ability to work effectively both independently and aspart of a of a team  

Demonstrated ability to m anage multiple projects andtimelines

Ability to work independently and hit deadlines

Demonstrated experience in group facilit ation

Minimum Qualifications

Education

Work requires communications, analytical and organizational skills generally acquired through completion of a bachelor's degree program.

Experience

Work requires four years experience in continuing education, OR AN EQUIVALENT COMBINATION OF RELEVANT EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE. curriculum design, marketing, administrative management or business to acquire skills necessary to plan, develop and coordinate a variety of seminars, conferences, workshops and short courses.
