Summary of Job Duties:

The University of Arkansas System Division of Agriculture (UADA) will lead the development of a pilot project to strengthen outreach and technical assistance to farmers and ranchers through the development of a cohort of risk management program navigators—program specialist trained by project collaborators to strategically and intentionally engage and serve producer influencers—land-grant faculty, agricultural colleges/universities, community-based organizations, non-government organizations across the crop insurance sector. The two-year pilot project features a collaboration with the USDA Risk Management Agency (RMA) and the Southern Risk Management Education Center (SRMEC), which is housed at UADA. The cohorts will be headquartered and managed by UADA and full time project manager. The Navigator Project Manager will implement and execution a stakeholder engagement and program outreach plan that is developed jointly under the leadership of SRMEC and RMA leadership. The engagement and outreach plan seeks to strategically strengthen and build new relationships across the crop insurance sector with public and private entities. Project’s overarching objective is to enhance understanding and use of federal crop insurance by producers historically underserved by crop insurance sector. The proposed effort will serve southeastern U.S.—Alabama, Arkansas, Georgia, Florida, Kentucky, Louisiana, Mississippi, North Carolina, Oklahoma, South Carolina, Tennessee, Texas, and Virginia. Pilot project will include strategic engagement with minority serving institutions and stakeholder groups targeting marginalized communities and historically underserved producers.
This position is a 100% Extension appointment in the Department of Agricultural Economics & Agribusiness at the University of Arkansas. Relevant expertise for consideration for this position may include agricultural finance, farm production economics, policy analysis, risk management, or agribusiness management. The successful candidate will be expected to coordinate an outreach and engagement plan across multi-states in coordination with other coordinators to reach stakeholders across the Southeastern United States. Specific position duties include collecting data and engaging agricultural stakeholders across the region. Activities include data analysis, individual presentations, and hosting staffed displays at farmer/rancher events promoting crop insurance resources. The engagement and outreach plan seeks to strategically strengthen and build new relationships across the crop insurance sector with public and private entities. Project’s overarching objective is to enhance understanding and use of federal crop insurance by producers historically underserved by crop insurance sector.
